Big fuel scoop is more useful than huge jump range, that's why they are so bloody expensive.

You know it's time to upgrade your fuel scoop when it takes longer to scoop than sell all your data.
Update: Finally made it back to inhabited space and slowly selling my data in different systems (so I can get my reputation up to allied for as many factions as possible). Hoping soon to get a nice fuel scoop (and hopefully do some engineering) so I can go back into the black and be a bit better prepared this time!
