I've finally put my finger on what ED is missing.

In Frontier and FFE, there was quite a bit of humour, mostly in the in game newsletters which all had different styles. ED in comparison is.. beige.

And as a complete aside, I want to rescue / help 'Junior the dolphin' again, and appear in one of the newspapers - they were really good, and what I think ED is missing, Galnet just doesn't do it for me.

This... the politically correct are running the show lately and its going to force everyone into a mundane docile beige unemotional wreck.

I heard the other day that "applause" now is offensive to some people and insensitive to the autistic people.

Its getting out of hand and the only way to fight back is to teach people if they don't like it, leave, close your eyes, play a different game, sure go ahead and complain about it. But you cannot CHANGE other people you can only change yourself.

I was amused (and even somewhat surprised!) by Elvira Martuuk inviting me to "Tell me what you want me to work on. Yes commander, I mean the module" :)

But yes, there doesn't seem to be as much of the not-taking-ourselves-too-seriously humour that Frontier and FFE had in some cases. Maybe I just haven't found it!

You've never encountered that notorious criminal Hugh Jarse, I take it?

Oh, plenty of those, for sure :)

My first encounter with amusing npc names was an invitation to "kill notorious criminal Michael Gove", which had me staring at the screen for a while! (I can't take the phrase "notorious criminal" seriously, either. The "Life of Brian" has much to answer for..)

When I do the Tourist Missions I always give an announcement out that sadly the on-board toilets are not working and sadly for any inconvenience to my passengers. bit like some of the uk train operating companies do. When they really are not sorry.
Been able to self destruct your ship is funny.

You've never encountered that notorious criminal Hugh Jarse, I take it?

Yes now some of the NAMES of the pilots I've encountered have been fantastic but all of those were written by us the people.

We need something FUN in the game that is POSITIVE not all about killing or defending your life.

I find it "funny" that my ship decelerates after boosting in FA off.

ZING

Yeah honestly that part of the game .. infuriates so many people. I don't need full newtonian but please.. try..

I dunno.....getting half the exploration community in their exploration ships ganked by hydras and sending them back to a prison ship in the bubble for fighting back was pretty damn funny.

You're so right. I fell off my chair when I read about it. Obviously I wasn't personally involved.

Humor.

We've all said it was a little boring, a little dry. I mean It can be absolutely frightening at times and infuriating. But you don't see too much on the positive side of things. You don't see too much lightheartedness or any charisma or character to the game. The only funny thing I think anyone can admit that is funny is the "penalty of death" for loitering. Galnet is pretty monotone all interactions with avatars are all business.

It is a serious game.

People are not serious. People / humans are creative and funny people. Look at the internet chock full of memes as the drop of a hat when anything happens in the world.

Memes are banned in the EU but are they banned in the galaxy too? Do thargoids meme??

What FD needs is an injection of fun into the game. Fun meaning funny, ridiculous, tongue in cheek behavior. All sorts of styles of humors both dark and light. Add the occasional crazy mission text. Add some crazy information about planets in the system map. Name some seriously funny planets.

DO SOMETHING to inject MORE MORE MORE humor and fun into the game. Hire a comedian if you have to. Make space memes spraypainted in stations.

I'm not talking about easter eggs. I'm talking about seeding the galaxy with some positivity and humor.

Ok guys - lets share our humorour moments. I'm not talking highbrow humor. I'm talking about borderline inappropriate, dark, light funny. Even dad joke material. WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN in the game that has made you laugh out loud??

I don't know that I've ever laughed in game ...[haha] This forum on the other hand...

Somebody here used to have an avatar with a game image of an NPC called TROUSERS announcing "I'm about to drop down"

Personally, there are quite a few NPC names that really make me smile, but I've seen forum posts in the past where commanders have complained it breaks their "immurshun". How do you please everybody?

Putting finger on something that is missing ...... I was expecting you to say you've discovered the insta-win button under your pilot seat :D

Instawin is not what we want. We want fun. Its a game. We want immersion and adventure and discovery. We want challenge. But the risk/reward has always been completely off. Increasing reward isn't a big deal as long as you add some gold sinks into the game so that if people want they literally can gamble all their gains away. Since credits are our gold they just need to make bigger more expensive things to buy but keep the upgrade train reachable. Make missions well paying. Make it so that you dont' need to grind for a week to get an upgrade or search forums to find a good money making endeavor.

Can't wait for the codex..

That meme isn't pointed any anyone here. Just in general

No way, Thargoid jokes really bug me.

Heh heh heh.

bada bing

That thargoid is huge look at all the space it takes up...
Witch space?

Ya think? I thought it was painfully obvious that Elite took itself too seriously and had its nose quiet far up its own ar** !

S'funny, I find quite a lot of stuff in ED that makes me smile and some of it is even intentional.

I guess the humour is more "Blackadder" than "Benny Hill" and you have to be capable of appreciating it.

Don't want Benny Hill although that would be funny if you heard yakity sax playing while the cops are chasing you...

Somebody needs to make a video of a ship being chased by an increasing number of system authority vessels that they have annoyed in some fashion and put yakkity sax over the top of it :D I wonder if Yamiks is reading this... ;)

An interesting perspective by the OP. I've always thought that the game has this subtle sense of humour that might even turn some people away because they thought the game should me more 'serious'. So it's interesting to me to see someone say that the game needs more humour - fascinating. Rather than the OP or myself being right or wrong, I think this says more about different people's perspectives and the diversity of cultural backgrounds than anything else.
