I've lost it

As the title says, I've lost it where it comes to buying ships. I'm wanting to purchase a good PVE combat ship but keep loosing millions of credits because of changing my mind in the process and selling than purchasing another.

Firstly I'm at novice level and have no superior skills in combat as all my missions have either been passenger/cargo runs and exploration.

I've been reading a lot on the forums about what the best combat ship should be and what arsenal I should have but I just get confused in the process of the massive opinions there are in this.

Secondly I do not have access to all Engineers so that limits the upgrades. I own a Phantom for exploration and a Clipper for Passenger runs.

What should I aim for that will give me a good allrounder combat ship that won't break the bank? I have approx. 500Mil credits to play with in this regard.

Small, Medium or Large? If medium, Python is a well rounded ship for all kinds of things, including tough shields and three large with two medium hard points.

Grab a Vulture, engineer the Powerplant, the engines and the shields and you should be good to go.

Oh and ofc the power distributor

For a combat beginner, I would suggest a Vulture as well. It is a good price for the punch, and the inevitable re-buys won't sting too badly. Once you do get into the combat side of the game, the Engineers do become more necessary. That's not to say you have to commit to running the table on them all, but get in touch with the 1st five or so that are your 1st introductions to them, and you'll be surprised at just what benefit you can get from them.

He said, he doesn't have access to all engineers. So Vulture might not be the right fit.

I'd recommend the Python - good all rounder and with 500M you will still have some rebuys left after outfitting.
Not sure about the FDL, I don't own one, I prefer my Corvette for the heavy duty stuff, or Anaconda for some light-medium "I feel like blowing stuff up".

Here you go:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/459859-How-To-Build-A-PvE-Combat-Ship

You can afford the FDL in the guide in that thread, you just need to get on the engineering asap.
Dweller is super easy and the G5 charge enhanced PD with super conduits will make a big difference in any combat build*.

Buy everything at a LYR station for the 15% discount.

*The cases where that mod is not ideal are few and not well suited to beginners.

It depends on your goals. A vulture is cheap, powerful and a great choice. It also has a tendency to make combat pilots sloppy and lazy due to its forgiving flight model. Personally I'd recommend a Viper; not as easy as the Vulture, but cheaper so mistakes arent a big deal. Once you've spend a while in it and really got to learn it, you'll appreciate the Vulture much more.

Fer De Lance if you just want to murder NPCs in style.

Cost a bit to outfit it but its a glorious PVE bounty hunting machine

You're talking about the Vulture...

Sounds to me you just aren't having fun with what you buy. For example, the clipper has better alternatives when it comes to passenger missions, but you use it becuase you like it.

Same will apply to combat ships. What ones have you tried, and why didn't you like them? That'll help decide what you'll have fun in.

Concur with Mrat13,

Start with the smaller combat ships like Viper to get a hang of the basics: forces you to learn evasive and positioning skills.

If you have the rank, Imperial Courier is great without engineering, have enough shields and speed to run away if needed. 4 utility slots to fit chaff and point defense + shield boosters. More forgiving than the Eagles.

Don't break the bank on your training combat ship. There is some good advice in this thread. I can personally recommend Courier. You will spend 10-15mil max, depending on your build. It's fast, maneuverable, fantastic shields. It will teach you how to dance around targets, and apply consistent DPS. It's a perfect training ship, that you will most likely want to keep since it's so damn fun to fly. It has superb cockpit, and trust me - you will want to listen to Danger Zone while flying this beauty :)

Viper IV

Tanky and versatile, though they tend to run a little hot.

Anybody who recommends differently is a bad person and doesn't have your best interest in mind.

Did you buy a Viper IV yet? If you didn't you're a bad person.
