These the old crystal shard sites? I only went to them once years ago. Have they been removed now?

Tey are still there, (at least a few months ago).
Albeit a bit more difficult to find.

Are the large barnacle forests still in the game or have they been removed.

if they are still there, do they still cause the game to crash if you try to visit? i dont want to go out there if it gonna cause the game to screw up.

Yes the forests are still in the game.

They've been "fixed" twice in the patch notes, but I only tried after the first time that didn't work. Go and have a look, all it will do is crash as you get close in glide and then you restart in low orbit.

Large Barnacle sites have 4 meta alloys and dozens of G1-2 raw materials, so they're just as worth a visit. If you're quick and shoot off all the mats before a Thargoid turns up, then that will suck them all up into the air and dump them in middle too

ahh cool... i was not sure if the traditional fix was to launch the game without horizons to get it to work, which would be more of an issue now and didnt want to have to contact support for them to do a magic recovery.
