ANNOUNCEMENT January Update - Patch Notes

"Fixed issues with ship rubber banding."

Yay, we have a winner!

"If the commander wants to have a definitive answer without travelling to the body they can still wait for the scan to complete in FSS. This data is also now shown in the body details on the system map."

Oooh, two!

Excellent stuff! This is going to get me back into the game after a few months (getting that "itch" again), trying to follow the DW2 route.

impressive list, with some entries that i'm really looking forward to see them working
hopefully it will go smoothly with no need for subsequent update patches.

Audio
  • Fixed audio issues with the Generation Ship, 'The Golconda'.
  • Audio logs obtained from the Golconda can now be played in the Codex.
  • Fixed missing audio and text for female crew members.
  • Fixed a bug where none of the Guardian articles in the Knowledge Base would play their associated audio.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that an audio effect on firing Pulse Lasers would loop indefinitely.
  • Fixed a looping audio issue with the Shutdown Field Neutraliser.

Great, but no fix for the other missing Codex audio files? There are two or three of the Generation ship logs that won't play from my Codex. I reported that bug sometime before July 2019.

Exploration
  • Implemented an alternative solution to help mitigate the long delay when scanning planets with geological sites.:
    • As it currently stands, in order for the geological/biological sites to be placed on the surface, the entire stellar body must be fully generated (we then know the topography and can place sites where they will be accessible), which can take tens of seconds.
    • As part of the January Update, we aim to address this with an alternative process. We have run tests on thousands of in-game planetary bodies and by using this data, we're able to extrapolate the likelihood of geological/biologic sites being present on similar stellar bodies. We then use this data, and indicate if the planet is ‘Unlikely’, ‘Likely’, or ‘Very Likely’ to have a geological/biological sites.
    • It is not 100% guaranteed that there will be a geological/biological site on the planetary body, but does give commanders a much faster indication of probability. This will enable commanders to quickly ascertain if the planet's worth a visit.
    • If the commander wants to have a definitive answer without travelling to the body they can still wait for the scan to complete in FSS. This data is also now shown in the body details on the system map.
    • Thargoid, Guardian or Human sites will show up instantaneously. These results have moved to the stellar body details shown on the right in the zoomed in FSS view.

Am I understanding this correctly? Now when we FSS scan a planet we will get the unlikely/likely/very likely on a body we resolve AND if we wait will get the exact results as before (e.g. 47 Geological Sites, 22 Biological sites)?! If so, that is a fantastic improvement! I thought we were trading the exact result for the quicker guess, and would only get the true results if we did a surface scan.

Sweet, lots of great fixes in here. Glad to see the beta feedback was taken seriously regarding the FSS update.

But I do have one complaint...

You're back to using "planetary bodies" and "stellar bodies" interchangeably. A "stellar body" is a star, not a planet.

i did speak for myself. i don't want it, cause if it happens in the background anyway, the whole change was pointless.
I don't understand why you would think that. If anything the background scan combined with adding it to the system map without having to DSS makes this ideal. I don't have to wait, and I can confirm their presence en route without having to re-enter the FSS.

because if you don't care for surface signals, just scanning systems, and you have 5-6 bodies scanning for locations in the back, that affects the performance.

Well as an explorer color me very happy about this patch. They gave us the best of both FSS solutions, AND we are getting the info on the system map. Plus having ARX earnings for exploration rebalanced?

Not bad Frontier, not too bad at all. I might even buy a paint job next week just to say thanks for listening to feedback.

I don't understand this change at all, TBH. Already, when an scan takes more than a couple seconds to complete, you know there are bio/geo's there. What good does the probability change serve?

EDIT: And why is my post text different from my "edit" text? I can't fix that sentence...
