Jettison Cargo - Jettison Cargo (Abandon)

What's the difference between Jettison Cargo and Jettison Cargo (Abandon)?

Jettison cargo means the cargo still belongs to you and anyone who scoops it up is stealing it. Jettison Cargo (Abandon) means you're removing ownership from the cargo once you jettison it.

This allows you to do open trading of cargo in space with another player and they don't get a penalty for scooping it up.

If you just jettison it, it will be marked as stolen by whoever picks it up. If you abandon it, it will not be marked as stolen.

Now this raises the question about whether or not pirates will kill you if you don't abandon your loot? If you just jettison normally they might hold it against you. I mean that's half price right there.

If I ran into a human and I had the upper hand, I would tell him to abandon his loot or I will destroy him... Just saying

If the scurvy rat wants it abandoned, he'll get less of it. If he gets too greedy he'd better be good at coping with missile spam and I'll blow the ship before I let him take anything once he starts the fight. It's just another term to be negotiated. I'm a man of my word, if the pirate also is then we can reach an accommodation.

In my experience, if you drop some cheap cargo before you're almost dead, the pirate will go for it. If it's a psycho, generally eagles, they usually just want the kill and ignore the cargo. I need to test this some more for definitive results, but that's hard to do since it's you have to put yourself into a dangerous situation to test it.

Some info on jettisoning is now available on the Wiki.
