I think you'll be fine. The neutron field is at least 10kly long, a few hundred ly wide and deep. So only a few million to get Plus there are loads of white dwarves too.
CMDRs Log : Day 34
19090LY from Sol
I am plotting the fastest route home now. Despite this at least 1 in 4 of my jumps is to either a black hole, neutron star or white dwarf. I scan them all.
My earlier equipment glitches seem to be over and I am making decent progress. I am trying to work out the optimum return point. It would be a shame to get blown up just before I can upload all this data to Universal Cartographics.
CMDRs Log Day 50
15880 Ly from Sol
I am picking a neutron star between 95 and 105 LY away and heading for it. generally it takes me 4 jumps, which gives me chance to scoop and means at least every 4th jump is worth scanning.
During the many hours I have done several calculations as to how much this trip will net me and my guestimates range from 12 to 30 million. the star density is sufficiently normalised now so I am about 15 hours of flight time from home. I am targeting making it in time for my scheduled vacation on Risa next Friday.
CMDRS Log : Day 70
7000LY from Sol
So I took my vacation in my ships holodeck since I was so far from Risa. I better get enough credits from this jaunt to get a decent stay in real life.
I made some good progress since and barring accidents I should be back home in a few days. I have decided to head for alliance territory, It's the closest to my current position and I am curious to see if selling all this data to them will help my standing with them.
OK so I have some thoughts on things I did right and things I did wrong.
1) The Asp was a good choice
2) The weapon load out was a waste
3) Extra fuel tanks would be a good idea
4) Get the biggest / best fuel scoop you can physically fit on your ship
5) Include a cargo capability. When you plot your route use the slider as if the cargo hold was full. (fuel efficiency goes up a lot)
6) You don't need a massive auto repair unit. A C3 is enough
7) Reduce your powerplant and power distribution to save mass.
8) The shield had no practical use, but I don't know if I could bring myself to not have one.
