Newcomer / Intro Joy Stick and Controls Setup Problem

I've been playing about a week or so and everything has been working fine without touching any of the settings until I tried the other mouse modes which didn't do anythinng good for me so I went back to the original OS mouse mode, but now my joy stick doesn't work right.

I've gone in and set up the joystick in controls and that helped but now my number 3 joy stick button which I use for targeting doesn't work and if I try to set it up in controls it unbinds my throttle.

Is there a way to set everything back to default?

That sounds weird, the mouse mode is a graphics option - nowt to do with your controls.

Assuming you are on PC (I have no idea about consoles) - to revert to pre-sets just select the correct one from the drop-down list in the Options / Controls screen.

Yes the mouse thing is in graphics which you would think would have nothing to do with the joystick.

Switching to the Generic Joystick mode did nothing and I'm afraid to try any of the other mode options.

I'm looking at the controls right now and its calling the yaw axis [JOY RZ-AXIS] and says the throttle is [JOY Z-AXIS].

One thing to note, which of course might be nothing to do with your issues, is that if you have copies of your ".binds" file in the same directory it can cause issues - things like not saving changes etc. So you might want to check that any backup copies you have are moved out of the same directory (just changing file names doesn't help).

Hi LMP,

I'm not in EF at the moment but it looks to mee that the binding has picked up the Right Z axis which is not correct so I would just try re-binding that key again.

Make a backup of your .binds file so if it all goes wrong you can just copy back the original.

You can find that in the users/(your user name)appada/local/Frontier Developments/Elite Dangerous/options/bindings.

The file is something like generic.binds, if in doubt just copy all the files into a save folder.

What type of joystick are you using?

Don't worry about messing up the file as you can always re-bind the settings in ED.)

If you need more help just pm me and I'll help you sort it out.

What you've probably done is assign a button that was already assigned to one thing to a different function.

From what I remember, when you start up with the basic mouse and keyboard profile, the default primary fire key was the left hand mouse button, the right hand button was the secondary fire key.
When you set up your joystick all it does is provide an additional way to access these mouse keys, so in the basic setup your joystick fire button needs to be linked to your left mouse button.

Where people go wrong is that they set up a binds file for mouse and keyboard - then assign mouse and keyboard keys to the joystick - then go back later and change the mouse and keyboard binds.

The joystick then follows the new binds.

To start afresh you need to go to the bindings folder and delete all the files that end in .binds (including Custom) and the start .txt file.

I'm on a PC and the stick I'm using is a Thrustmaster T.Flight Stick X.

I moved all the files in users/my user name/appdata/local/Frontier Developments/Elite Dangerous/options/bindings to a backup folder and that fixed it.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
