Hardware & Technical Joystick for old MS Flight Simulator

New member so be gentle with me.
I have an old MS FSim that runs in WinXP. I have an MS Sidewinder FFB joystick with a DB15 connector but now no compatible DB15 card.
I've considered the DB15 to USB converter but suppliers can't tell me that they will work with this joystick. Also considered DIY converter but can't find info for my model number of stick.
So can anyone recommend a USB stick that will work with this Sim? If so please post.
I have questioned a few suppliers about compatible but again they say 'don't know'.

Not for the force feedback at least, by virtue of plain gameport having no way to send information to the joystick (my guess is that it uses MIDI for that, which was often present on those connectors).

And which version of Flight Sim?

Thank you for your replies.
The simulator is FS 2000. I did not expect the FFB to work with any other joystick as this was a special feature of the Sidewinder.
Para Handy, I'll follow up your suggestion.
