Great tip, thanks! Do you open it up and lubricate it or do you apply it on the ball under the stick?
How did you apply it? Just pop open the bottom and spray it in? Sounds like it could be useful for the X52, after I send it back to Saitek for repairs.
Hi Guys .. I would say it depends where your issue is. In my X55 practically everything was squeaking!
If it was me, I would start with the basics .. light doses on the ball joint at the base of the joystick (whatever its called) along with any of the plastic parts that rub against the ball, work it in for 30-60mins in use and reapply sparingly as needed. After 2 or 3 applications the coverage should be good. It takes a little use to work it in and get it smooth, so don't stress if you apply some and its still an issue, just do it again. After it is good, I have found a 3-6mth top up every now and then to keep it that way.
If you get squeaks on the twist or buttons then you will need to open the joystick handle up. Not hard, 5 screws on the X55, just be careful when opening up to ensure you don't pull on any wires etc.
The twist in the X55 is a little tricky to lubricate without pulling the twist component apart. I used a bit of graphite powder here, blown lightly into the holes on the side. This can take some more 'breaking in' in my experience since the lube was non-existent in my unit. The Dry PTFE should work well too, just don't over do it!
For the twist, to save putting it all together each time and then reapplying, I simply held the joystick together without the screws in and kept twisting for an hour or so, topped up and did it again. Bit of a work out in the end but if you keep undoing the screws, they will eventually loosen since they grip into plastic. So the less you need to open up the joystick the better. Oh and don't overtighten when you do it back up
For the buttons at the top of the joystick, I only needed to do those fairly recently. Very light amounts here, since there is electronics close.
Don't rush, apply sparingly and reapply as needed till you are happy with the smoothness.
Havent needed any on the Throttle yet, so can't help you on that side of things.
Hope it helps!!
Edit: Also there are a couple of video links in my profile guide on steam for the X55 disasembly. Not sure if this varies much from X52, but might give you bit more of a visual.
