Hardware & Technical Joystick review with Elite

Where was this earlier!? I already bought my Thrustermaster Hotas.. To be honest once you get use to using the joystick it is pretty good. The one thing that I've learnt is that you want one with good quality and loooaddsss of buttons.

Thanks you for moving my post above.

I didn't realise there is a hardware and technical forum.

I did look but with so many stickys and such, must have missed it.

I bought the Black Widow simply because of the reviews.

I don't know about you, but I've yet to make my first kill, (the Solar Flare ). I did try landing in a Space Station, but let's not speak of that again.

If I may suggest, it's going to be about practice. There will always be better equipment. Each new piece is just means starting again.

By the time that I bought my Joystick I was already use to the mouse and keyboard and was getting pretty good at this. I absolutely hated the joystick when I first tried it but once you get the controls set up as you like its pretty fun.

The joystick I bought also has a thruster control which makes SCing a lot lot lot easier when trying to align with a port. I'm still to get a kill though, I'm just playing as trader after been put off when I lost 120k buying and outfitting a ship and constantly been destroyed. I hope your right and with practice I should hopefully be able to take out those pesky pirates..

Well...it was published on their website April 22nd, 2014... :p:D
Touché sir.. Touché. I simply Googled 'Elite Dangerous Joystick' and the first Amazon result was the one I bought. Works a treat too :D

I'm still in the virgin kill club and I understand others are as well. For anyone over 13, it's quite tricky to master.

My biggest problem is I start to track the Solar Flare but if I move too slowly, it gets away while if I track fast, I whizz past it.

It would be nice if the increase in tracking speed were regular and predictable.

I've been experimenting with some of the settings, though only with limited success.

Since others are managing it it's obvious it's do-able.

Found a good review on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm_AAtH1pzc

Also this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiIAZ_7em9o

I discovered, uninstalling the software has left me with a default, M$ driver which has calibration. This is making things instantly easier.

Click Control Panel, click Devices and Printers. Right click on Game controller and click on Game controller settings. Finally, click on Properties.

That Solar Fluke's days are numbered!

I wasn't too impressed with the original review. Logitech Extreme is an ok stick.

X52 Having the throttle and stick separate is a good thing and three hats in elite dangerous is a must if you want to lateral thrust and use the ship computers without taking your hands off the controls. You don't need a keyboard (especially handy if you happen to use a vr headset, which I don't but still).

I had a speedlink competition pro for my BBC and the original Elite. I didn't think the company still existed. I think they are EU only as I haven't heard of them in 20 years, since I moved to the USA.

My biggest problem is the delay between moving the joystick and the actual movement. It's almost impossible to do anything with accuracy.

Sadly, this forum seems more interested in inane chatter and spitting contests than talking about playing and equipment. This thread was moved here or I wouldn't have know this sub-forum existed. Consequently, I and others just couldn't get any information on which joysticks to buy.

The deficiencies of the Black Widow, which I bought are something I'll just need to learn to live with. For the moment, I'm in a space station, with 4 loads of minerals, about to set off for where-ever in the hope I can actually land. I still don't know how to do that. The landing gear I've found. I did, once, manage to get into a station, with some damage and a criminal record, but had to leave again when I couldn't figure out what to do next.

Where do you see this delay?

Do you see a delay when you use the built in Windows "calibration" tool. eg. clicking on game controller, properties....or enter "joy.cpl" into the Windows search box?

Because there is and should not be any delay. I am also not experiencing any delay from joystick input in game....or if there is I haven't noticed it all all.

Something must be screwed up with your setup.

With the Thrustmaster Joysticks, these controls are already configured when you plug them in and there is no difference between mouse and joystick with delay. It may be to do with your settings, try tweaking the deadzone.. I had a lot of trouble with this on the mouse and keyboard.
