Jump Drives

Greeting's

I was recently in a system and I decided to buy a new jump drive. I went from a 4E to a 3B so I outfitted this new drive and plotted my course and launched away only to find...guess what...not enough fuel to get out of the system I was in. I then proceeded to go back to the station to find a jump drive that had the proper ranges and ....guess what....no such drives available !!!. So I talked to a FD Dev in discord and he suggested I come here and make a post and this could be an oversight and should be looked into and this was his possible idea "sounds like a possible oversight going on with how things are populated into stations.". So if you could please look into this issue as it forced me to delete my saved game and start from scratch this is something that should never happen to anyone. or possibly add some type of warning that doing such a thing will leave you stuck or some measure to prevent this from happening. Thanks for your time and keep up the great work !!

You are in the wrong forum, it's suggestion forum here.

You need to submit a ticket to support team

They will roll back your save so got your FSD back.

Also if you go far away from the bubble don't forget to take a fuel scoop with you... You can only fuel Scout in Star OBAFGK ("Oh Be A Fine Girl Kiss Me")... and if jump in other type star too much time, at 3/4 of your fuel tank always change course for a suitable star for refuel...

At least with that you won't call the fuel rats as well !

You also went backwards with your upgrade.

4E FSD is probably better suited to your ship than 3B.

The number on the class and rating system is the size of the module, so 4 is bigger than 3.
In general you always put the largest module possible in the slot.

The letter is the rating.
E-A, A is generally the best, E is worst.

There are exceptions to this rule of course.

Yea indeed. But i thought it was obvious. Thank you for him to precise that.

You go from E (the bader) to A (the better).
E is the cheapest and has the most mass. D is always the lightweight module from all. A has the best result but weight more than D and is very expensive.
C & B are in between and allow to upgrade without spending too much.

You can go to https://coriolis.edcd.io/ and play with the different modules to see what it does.

You'll learn a lot :)

Sorry for your loss. Some helpful info:

1. Selling modules does not guarantee that a station sells it. Always check what is available.
2. One can buy back a module after selling/replacing it for about 10 (maybe 15) minutes.
3. One can store the module while checking out a replacement.
4. There is no credit loss when buying/selling modules.
5. There is a 10% loss when selling ships.

Thanks Guys for info

Hi guys TY for the Info will look into things and sorry for not putting this into the proper place lol I even asked the dev where I should post it. Already restarted from scratch anyhow. Still learning the ropes of the game its much different then the old school days of playing the orig Elite. But again TY for the responses !!!

I did forget to add I've had the FUEL RATS Help already !!. I didn't know about the way to avoid them nasty stars and did a jump only to land on a White Pulsar type and it fried most of my systems I was dead in the water only to find out that I could turn off some of the things thanks to a few of the savvy fuel rats that showed up to help in the #4 panel and managed to get my Jump drive functioning. They are a OUTSTANDING bunch of people. I now have them in my discord so if I get into a jam I can get the advice before sending an SOS :D

I suspect the thing with this is, the modules sold in a station are probably the size to suit the ships sold by that station. A 3E might not push your ship to the next system but it will push a viper nearly 8ly and an eagle over 9ly, which probably is enough to get it to the next system.

You should be able to get the 4E FSD module back by storing your 3B FSD module. When you store the core modules, you get a stock module as a free replacement. I'm fairly certain that the station doesn't need to stock the 4E module to do this.
