Jumpgate

So, out of curiosity, how many here played Jumpgate when it launched over a decade ago? That was the last real MMO space sim, IMO. Nothing like losing your whole ship for hitting one of those tiny grey dots the size of your fist. :p

I was going to go back and check out my old POS as I hadn't logged in several years, then I found out they finally pulled the plug. Ah well...

I played JG at launch up until ep2 then left shortly thereafter for other games. Tons of fun.

The original may have been shut down but theres a new server up running it. Nobody really logs into it though. Maybe 5-10 pilots a day.

I played Jumpgate, loved it especially the way the flight worked hauling massive loads, lots of fun.

I remember a particular asteroid which was black and near invisible which claimed many a ship, can't remember its name tho.

Hail Octavia!

Ah yes, Jumpgate. Downloaded the beta with all the speed my 56k could muster.

I recall getting a ship all kitted out with the latest and greatest gear with the help of some higher level folks, and then crashing into the side of a gate or something similar within five minutes.

Istvan here, former Jumpgate dev. The original Elite and Elite II is where most of my inspiration for working on Jumpgate came from. I do miss Jumpgate, but Elite is familiar and in Elite: Dangerous, I have come back home. It's also lovely to enjoy being just another player, rather than having the responsibility of being a developer hanging over one.

I've been enjoying the Beta and Gamma phases, and I hope that many old Jumpgate players will find in Elite much of the gameplay you miss from Jumpgate, including skill-based combat and interesting repercussions from your personal choices and actions, but mostly I hope you find fun.

Fly safe, and see you in space!

Zebarmy here, still Conflux hunting in Elite, missing my Hammer Typhoon :p

Quantar all the way (although I did fly with a red beacon flipper helping out OV sometimes, but shhhhh don't tell anyone!)

You can still play if you want.. quite a lot of people are playing on jumpgate-tri.org :)
So.. during your cargo hauls and pirating, if you find time... maybe relive the old days haha.

Of course i played Jumpgate, it was the best in the genre between Frontier and Elite: Dangerous in my opinion. :)

I had never even heard of Jumpgate until now.. :D

I had heard of Jumpgate: Evolution, which was cancelled.

Glad you all had fun though :D

I also had never heard of Elite, until Elite Dangerous popped up on my radar about 4 months ago :D
