Jurassic Park Operation Genesis: Living up to it and more than that

Here's my wishlist for this game after playing it for around 12 hours now, and having played O Genesis for countless hours:

1. Decoration and Assets: benches, picnic benches, trash cans, lamps, cameras etc, more control to make the park look the way you want it.

2. More options in what is a management game: running ads and campaigns to bring more people to the park, more financial decisions to make like park entry price adjustments, managing kinds of staff and their pay, staff union troubles and deals, campaigns in the park, for example promotions like 50% off gyro rides at the X exhibit, cleaning staff, controlling the budget each section of staff gets etc. Not obtrusive and annoying in your face kind of stuff, just the little switched and gears that you need to control to strategize and do what you want to do, in more than one straightforward way, to add depth to the game which it now severely lacks.

3. Dinosaurs have better behavior: I noticed the carnivores eat goats whole?? they don't even run. Fights are bit bland to be honest, I've seen it being very buggy, where they just stand around and do the same attack over and over and re-initiate the fight many times cause they forget they're in a fight... its weird. Herbivores should have group mentality where if there's many together, they run together, just like gallimimus or velociraptors in Operation Genesis I want each dinosaur to feel unique and unpredictable. Right now they're hella boring. Fights actually suck and are kind of annoying to watch. In the announcement trailer for this game there is an opening sequence where a bunch of Parasaurolophus that were eating grass, that simple small thing isn't in the final game!! it's always off feeders..... also the herding behavior sucks. The indo, is it smart? meh. Trex vs. Spino fight? Where's the crazy feeling you get when you first saw the fight in Jurassic Park 3? Dinosaurs need unique behavior.... that is the ONE thing that was lacking on Operation Genesis... now 15 years after that game.... we've come a long way with technology we can make it a 100x better.... this one improvement alone would sell this game for me.

4. Better terrain modifier: mountains, lakes, rivers etc.

5. Generate island: fully custom park build control foliage density, mountains etc, build on more parts of island versus just a small part of the whole.

6. Interesting buildings: there are so many souvenirs in the new movie... where's the souvenir building? rest areas? a building where staff train dinos? how about the water enclosures from the movie? and the flying dino enclosure? kiddie parks? child care center? information center for maps and such? dino learning center from Jurassic World?

I doubt there will ever be an island generator. The islands in JPOG were garbage, just like the game. I prefer what Frontier has done.

Also I don't see the need for benches since we have a monorail systems. benches give guests a place to rest after they have walked a lot. With the monorail that isn't necessary cause they no longer have to walk that far.

There are several souvenir shops in the game. There is the gift shop, the toy shop and the clothes store.

I went back and looked at some JPOG videos.

-Benches, trash cans, lamps would be nice little additions in a park.
-What I miss most from JPOG is comments from the visitors of what they liked and did not like. Would like to have them back...
-We will most likely get better Dino AI, just have to wait patiently.
-Island Generator is one thing your are probably not going to get. Probably a Sandbox with a list of small and large Islands to play with.

Thats your opinion thousands of people would disagree . If not way more. For 2003 it was great for what it was. Maybe no Island generator but more islands or simply a bigger nublar with better sandbox. With challenge.

Yeah Island generator I don't ever see working. And to be honest, with all the things going on in the game, I'm glad we don't have benches, trash cans, lamps etc. to put down every ten metres.

Great thread.

The game lacks in cosmetics and different buildings, shops, attractions etc. to make the park look better, and more like your own. I see people argue that it's already to much going on in the game. Really? After maybe the two first islands and the learning period I find the game incredibly easy. It desperatly needs more stuff to make the park look good. Right now they all look the same. Otherwise the game is great. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a game as much. The dino AI may need a buff but I trust that to be resolved.

Good job Frontier.

Yes, really. I don't think the game is too difficult, I personally just don't like the idea of placing benches and trash cans. But yes, the game so far is fantastic, Frontier have done a great job.

Still, I don't think people understand the difference in scale between JPOG and JW-Evolution. Max dinosaur limit is 60 in JPOG, while there are folks making 600 and one of the devs who replied here made up to 1000...I personally like the fact that there are 1000ns of people in your park as supposed to 100 in JPOG.
A bit of a challenge would be good. Like broken fence requiring Rangers to be on the ground to be deployed to protect the breach while Engineers took the time to fix it.

Me either. At least not mandatory. If it is just a visual feature I'm on board. What I would love to see are more options to customise our park. Maybe a skeleton to place in the middle of a plaza and stuff like that. Or maybe a dinosaur mascot for example. Planet Coaster had this wonderful cute dinosaur mascot

and it could be a nice addition for any park.

There are definitely more things that could be added to allow our parks to have more of a 'complete' feel of being a luxury spared no expense global attraction. Decorations yes, additional attractions & facilities yes, improved terrain tools - personally the ability to place small mountain areas would be great. The deep water thing I'm not so sure on because this would also require swimming animations for all the dinos... which also would be fantastic but that's a huge amount of work when there are other things that would improve the game more and be much less of a drain on their resources.

Would love improved dino AI as OG did have some cool mechanics like herbivores 'playing' by chasing each other around, herding better and also when a carnivore was hunting - it ran into the running herd and you really couldn't tell which one would be taken down straight away. That plus pack raptor behaviour would be so amazing.

There are some good suggestions in this thread about other management features that could be built in, I guess they would need to be built into the story/contracts and existing mechanics well enough to make them enjoyable though!

lol @ people complaining about the number of buildings. Remember how JPOG had exactly ONE building where guests could eat and exactly ONE building where they could shop? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Like JWE has only two security buildings? This path goes both ways ;)

True, but JPOG came out 15 years ago. It would only make sense for JWE to recreate and enhance the strongest elements and features of its predecessor (the tornado isn't one I would ever have picked, frankly). I do get that people are tired of the comparison. Heck, I could kill the next person that asks for a Mosasaurus. But it's still a legitimate critique.

I was thinking about this the other day after watching the Dinosaurs eat some guests and goats. I would like to see them rip guests and goats apart like what was done in books. But this wouldn't go well with the rating Frontier wanted. That's why you don't see raptors tearing guests up when they pounce on them. If you see someone get their arm ripped off then that would too gory. It would look strange to have an arm hanging out of a Dinosaurs mouth with no blood at all. It would look like one of those fake arms they sell during Halloween.

Why don't you put it in the wishlist? I would definitely like more serious killing animations. Ripping people in half is a bit too far for my liking, even if it happened in the novels and the second film, but I wouldn't mind some blood and more importantly convincing screams:

This is not true at all. My herbivores eat grass all the time. Including my Parasaurolophus herd.

Perhaps he/she meant that herbivores don't actually "feed" when they graze, their hunger meter only goes down when they go to a feeder.

Cause we have been asking for more gore since we first saw a raptor kill a goat in a species profile. I doubt we will get it. Frontier wanted a teen rating. I suspect that's why people get eaten whole by big carnivores. I know Crocodiles, Alligators, other large reptiles and birds tend to swallow stuff whole as well. I have never see a bird, alligator or crocodile chew anything.

Dinosaur Behavior + Remove Park Restrictions

I take back many of the things I've said here, especially #6 and #5.

The more I play this the more I realize, only #3 is needed, and also removing the build limit on the island is way, way better than adding an option to generate islands.

Dinosaur behavior seriously needs an improvement.... my first dinos on the first park, even if you put 3 of them together... all they do is walk around. Sleeping isn't a thing either? Dinosaur behavior is seriously the only thing they need to focus on.
