Just 1 out of 5 Newbies get out of the Sidewinder

FDev did a great job on the controller for Elite, wish more console games allowed for that level of customisation. Thanks to the context buttons I can bind every important function on the controller. Only problem is that I prefer pitch/roll/yaw into roll on the right stick which is opposite of the default stick layout, and it cause problems with headlook bindings when switching from ship to SRV. When the game launched on Xbox it was not that good, but now we have the same level of keybind options as the PC if I'm not mistaken.

Have yet to complete Fallout 4 and Mass Effect: Andromeda, given how much I liked the previous games a was sure they were going to be good games, but I just lost interest after a while. Taken a couple of breakes from Elite but keep coming back.

Was happy to see Elite being ported to Xbox, we need more niche games and I'm not your typical CoD enthusiast. I might have chosen the wrong gaming system for the type of games I like.

I was kinda in the same boat...spent 10 years or so on the Xbox after about as many years gaming on the PC. After E-D was released on Xbox, I realised it was only a matter of time before I went back to PC...the lack of peripherals like HOTAS, even though that's now been partially addressed was the final straw for me...and a love of flight sims :)

I don't think you're alone. I'd hate to go back to PC, but I do wish more niche titles would make the jump from PC to console. The only Civ we have is from last gen (and it was terrible anyway).
But there does seem to be more and more PC stye games arriving. The number of Xbox gamers playing stuff like Elite, Xcom 2, Wasteland, City Skylines, Pillars of Eternity and so forth does seem to prove that XBox gamers are willing, able and enthusiastic to embrace a wider range of titles when given a chance.

Having played both however I found that for a newer player, the controller layout is less intuitive than even kbam. Not because FD laid it out poorly, not because "consolez suk"; the layout of the average controller just seems suited better to FPSs etc. than boundary pushing space flight games, and it seems to be most prominent learning the ropes .And while I noticed it just a little, I have had it pointed out by RL friends that picked up ED on console.

Couldn't disagree more. Given that holding a button pops up a little menu, I found the console controls super easy to learn. Anyone that's played Mechwarrior, Chormehounds, Ace Combat, any semi-tactical RPG or a slightly demanding tower defense game, will take to it like a duck to water.
