Just drop the gorram cargo! I don't ask for much

First off, I do a lot of trading - always in Open - and I love the fact that human pirates are out there. Don't stop.
But it always cracks me up when I see these posts about pirates complaining that people don't follow their scripts. You are frustrated that we aren't following some sort of "rules" when the exchange happens and you are therefore inconvenienced by having to expend the effort to kill the trader. Ha. Enjoy the uncertainty like we few traders in Open do. That's the game.

LOL - Great counterpoint, actually.

I've started pirating today and I've been unfortonate enough to stumble upon two players who have had a decent haul without limpets, so I tell them ''Stop and submit to scan'' then they tend to float about a bit but I get the scan done, so I tell him to drop the 2 slaves or 5 uranium (the uranium one had 40) but both were that! So I open fire with my 3 beams and 2 rockets I get them down to 50% ask them again, ''Do you want to reconsider?'' They keep fleeing so I shoot them down to 10% asking them again ''Are you sure you don't want to live?'' keep flying, I mean am I getting interference? So yea I kill them unfortunatly. (I know you can target the cargo hatch but they'll probably die before it malfunctions) Guess it is better for both parties if I remember my limpets.

Most die hard trade pilots would rather die than give a ton. You may not understand but that is not the point. Rep to the traders you destroyed.

Also, to help possibly explain some of the behavior you had mentioned earlier... once you are committed to running (and hopefully surviving), it is hard to monitor the comms panel for new messages. Just not feasible as the game is currently set up in my opinion. But I commend you for giving so many chances. I like your style of pirating.

There should certainly be a more visual or audible (or both) notification when you have received a message

especially if trying to pull some evasive maneuvers the screens all over the place - its so easy to miss a message

I think the misnomer here is "die hard" because they die easy ;)

I know the game is "play it your way" but once you have extra credits in the bank for insurance, ship destruction stops feeling like a threat. I can't say I care for that. How many of those traders would be willing to go down with their ship if they faced going back to a Sidewinder?

I'm not a pirate, and I don't like pirates (in game that is), but you would think that the terror felt by getting intercepted by one should be greater than "Oh Eff You" and hitting the self-destruct out of spite. You might as well combat log if that's your attitude.

True dat - when I'm on the run, I don't find it easy to check the coms (sometimes because it's partially obscured when accellerating with boost!)

a fully laden type 7 is a fair few million creds up the swanny

i'd much rather drop a few tons of cargo than lose that much money - regardless of how much i had in the bank

quick question about interdictions I have been interdicted many times but no one has ever pulled me out of frameshift a friend of mine gets pulled out every time they try it on him. is he crap or am I lucky?

Most experienced traders will have enough in the bank to survive a few explosions. Also I don't recommend doing rare trades or using the trade tools. Go find your own routes that are not on the trade tools and you can trade in peace and quiet for a long long time. Also by learning to run you learn how to play better. Submitting every time and giving the pirate what he wants will not help make you a better player. Even though I have lost many ships to running from pirates, I have learned how to run from them better. And no, self destruct is not the same as combat logging and can't be honestly compared to each other. And yes...ship destruction is not much of a threat for me anymore and it has allowed me to become a pretty proficient combat pilot to hunt those would be pirates.

To each their own. I just don't like pirates and if they want something they will have to take it from me or kill me trying.

Maybe a bit of both?

I think I'm pretty good at evading an interdiction, but the class/rating of the interdictor device also plays a role.

Hitting self-destruct out of spite is perfectly valid. It denies pleasure to the interdictor, removes any purpose behind their actions, and provides no way of them displaying their superiority over a weak target.

To the fat trader oozing cash, the loss is minimal, and frustrating pew-pews by any means can be a genuine pleasure for some :D

My suspicion is a bit of both. If your friend gets pulled out EVERY time, he needs practice because some of them are very easy to evade. I have found that humans are a bit harder as well as a minority of AI. I'd suspect that has to do with skill as well as a better unit, but I am not certain on that last point. For a full discussion on this, you might open a separate thread for the topic.

ah thank you I did wonder bout classes.
though I have changed my controls to add yaw to the left stick and my friend has not I tell him that's the reason they don't get me.

It's perfectly valid in your eyes. In my eyes it's rediculous and very gamey. It breaks immersion on both sides but pains the trader more.

I'm always sending players messages but never get a reply but I would rather die that give you my load!

Another way to say this is that the loss of a ship isn't worth the effort to drop a few tons....or, in even fewer words...I can replace the cost of the ship so easy I do not care that I lose it.

not that I am a trader but if I was cutting off my nose to spite my face would definitely be the way to go, no problem with pirates its clearly one way to play(I don't like it but they bought the game to play their way not mine) though I don't think suicide is the way to go just do as much damage to them as possible before your killed then they have cost's nominal I know but still a pain for them to have to go and repair and you never know you might get lucky and win.

Say I am a trader and I have two billion credits. I am interdicted by a wing of 4 who immediately starts shooting. I'd self destruct and eat the rebuy (and not notice it) just to make the pew-pews RAEG when they get nothing.

whoa, inverted-griefing.

I don't even know which way is up anymore.
