Hardware & Technical Just found this new HOTAS manufacturer, Oh my.

Virpil HOTAS seems tempting... But it is a lot of money considering how combat in this game is, a keyboard and a mouse game.
Is it?

When I first got it, I hated it. Couldn't fly at all. Got HOTAS, and loved it. Haven't gone back since. I've tried with XBox controller, and it's okay, but HOTAS is beyond awesome. And I most definitely love the HOTAS for combat.

Now THAT'S a pretty slick idea! Where/how did you find/craft that panel? It's genius!

I would probably bend that aluminum angle a little differently and not make it 90 degrees. More of an upward angle so the keypad would be higher in relation to the throttle so when you stuck your index finger straight out you would be pointing at the center of the keypad. Easier range of motion.. maybe. Saved it out some time back and when this thread started it was a good opportunity to post it.

Which Frontier really should do something about, especially now with more-and-more button controlled features and functions like FSS, drones, nightvision, and whatnots.

Well since Elite is as simple as it is it's more than you would need really.

And they still insist on adding new features into new modes that leave pretty much a clean slate for bindings.

Maps, separate, driving seperate, Fss mode seperate.

So for this new expansion the only button maps that has been added is the. "Oh Lord of pointlessness" hud mode, nightvision toggle and the fss mode.

And anyone who are worried about loosing buttons between sticks don't.

The MT-50 grip has 19 buttons + POV
And three axes, brake lever, and the lever also sends a button, like the lever on the warthog.
Not a huge use in Elite, but actually more useful than scrolly z-axis on most sticks.
I use mine for deploying hardpoints.

The delta has 22 distinct buttons, 15 of which are on the 5-way hats three on the encoder wheel.
but the grip itself has three additional axes, with the thumbstick, which is as good or better than any xbx controller, after you put a curve on it.

And before you ask, console controllers have firmware curves with HUGE dead-zones in them.

I use the Brake Lever for Cargo Scoop and Flip-Down Trigger for Landing Gear. I love having these controls being both quickly accessible and impossible to accidentally engage!

Dual Virpil sticks, I use the brake leavers as acceleration and deceleration. For additional buttons please check out BlackHog. Live long and Elite!
