Just spent the last 2 hours of game time looking for a 1C Advanced Discovery Scanner

And none were to be had. None. I used EDDB and other online resources. I went to stations that had reported them available within days, even hours, on these external API driven resources. None to be had.

Not a very acceptable state of affairs, Frontier.

From the patch notes:
New Features

Exploration

  • Discovery Scanner upgraded to include access to the new Full Spectral System (FSS) scanner mode

  • Players use the FSS Mode to discover stellar bodies, stellar phenomenon, USSs, scenarios, distress calls, mission targets and more
  • There is now only one Discovery Scanner available in game, which is based on the basic variant. Commanders that have purchased either the intermediate or advanced scanners will receive a credit refund

Didn't you wonder why your previously fitted disco scanners were now just empty slots?

Mind you if they bothered to release an up-to date manual that might help - in the meantime you should maybe have a quick scan of the patch notes as our Mr Maynard indicates. You are in for some interesting times without doing so. ;)

No I did not. Because the one previously fitted scanner I have on the DbX is still there.

From the patch notes:

I appreciate your reply. A clearer statement in the patch notes would be something like this: "No discovery scanners of any type are necessary on your ships. All ships are equipped with an FSS suite, which can be given a pulse of energy to perform a discovery scan."

I'll bet there is not a Discovery Scanner fitted in an optional internal modules bay. You might have a Detailed Surface Scanner still fitted, although that should now be renamed the planetary darts probe launching module.

Nope - it is quite correct. You have a Discovery Scanner inbuilt in every ship, the Discovery Scanner has a passive discovery facility that "discovers" stuff within a "short" distance and is used to provide the activation pulse which enables the FSS analysis system. You can still bind the Discovery Scanner to a fire button so that you can see how many bodies are in a system without going into the FSS analysis mode.

Does that help?

P.S. It is good to see that nobody suggested you could buy one at Hutton Orbital. ;)
