Keeping record?

I keep record of systems with certain worlds in EDD's notes field. For the DWE I kept a MS Word doc with notes of the trip, and for my journey home I'm keeping another Word doc with details and points of interest that I find.
With every other version of Elite I used to always keep notes on a paper pad, I guess I've just gone more digital with Elite Dangerous. Going "green" I suppose.

I keep detailed system screenshots of every TFC, WW, AW, ELW, some stars and more stuff around it.
Currently working on a tool to extract those contents and pipe them into my local database so i can do awesome sql stuff on that data.
Planned is a configurable database connector for mysql databases within your intranet or internet and an sqlite connector, all depending on your choice of datawarehouse.
Also planned is a sexy sqlite export feature so many people can export their stuff by sharing and reimporting their databases into one large one (Imagine 100+ explorers merging their data after DWE comparable exploration missions. Sure gives me the creeps :-D ).
Not sure when its done since time is always rare to find. But i will post it in this forum when i'm done so everyone can use it.

should't really have to you should be able to see what you have on the computer onboard a very bad oversight by FD
Do you think they will ever make a favorites list, or something of the like? It just seems that when navigating it would be so much easier. At the moment for Xbox users it's a bit more cumbersome to navigate the galaxy map. Even so, a favorites list would be wonderful in moments when you need to get out in a hurry.
I keep notes that are a bit messy and include everything I've found that I consider interesting as well as my waypoints, and then I transcribe them into a black book that is kept much neater and easier to reference.
I keep a detailed google doc spreadsheet documenting every ELW I ever found. Other than that, I use Captain's Log and EDDiscovery to keep track of my travels and make note of any particularly interesting systems. I also save screenshots of system maps of every interesting / ELW containing system and keep them in specific folders. Once atmo landings become possible I'll have a pretty detailed database of systems to visit. What I don't do is keep track of every water / ammonia world I find, there's far too many of those for me to bother. I do make a note of them if there's something noteworthy about them.
Captain's Log - It does nearly everything I've a mind to write down... can be exported into a spread sheet...

I second Captains Log, even gives an estimate of how much you've earned, although as yet I have no idea how accurate I've set it up. Plus missed the first 350 systems as I forgot to reenable verbose logging...
Taking notes of interesting (to me) finds, and a spreadsheet of all my first discoveries. I'm on the Xb1, my options are limited, lol.
And being that navigating the first discoveries list when you turn in a page is a huge pain, I'll just record my entire turn-in so I can keep track of the discoveries for later.

I keep a journal / diary of my current journey. On paper. I have an A5 booklet (River Song's Diary) and write something in there of each day I travel; I also add pictures to it from the spots I liked most .
Never managed to do something like this for a real life trip, but can find the energy without problem for Elite Dangerous...

Hi, I've created an OCR scanner which scans the system map and extracts the data as part of www.elitegalaxyonline.com.
Whilst I cant claim it to be perfect it's definitely getting close now
I added an API to the website a while back which allows third party apps to use the OCR functionality if they want to which might be of interest to the maker of captains log.
I started using Captain's log after last year's calamitous update, that screwed with the Exploration servers. I used it to input the stars in each system & any ELW's I found.
However, Iv found that going on DWE trip, I was putting in too much info into CLog.
First got fed up with inputting these stars everytime & then, because of the number of systems I had in my database, it was taking sooo long to load & run the program that I questioned why I was using both CLog & EDDiscovery.
So I ditched CLog for the much faster running EDDiscovery - Sorry CLog, you served me well for a time.
I have all my ELW's info on my phone - until I sell my data & send the info to the ELW Discovery post.

I also use EDdiscovery to make notes of ELW, AW, WW and interesting details. For instance: "1 ELW + 1 ringed tfc WW, 1 WW" when I find 1 non-terraformable water world in the same system as an earthlike world orbited by a ringed terraformable water world.

Yes, the long loading times of large databases can make the CL experience jarring, but if you check the Captain's Log thread, you'll see that the next version due to be released soon apparently fixes that problem by drastically reducing loading times. I can't wait as my current database is over 6000 systems, as you can imagine in it's current state CL takes a while to load that up. But you may want to keep an eye on the new version, with fixed loading times the main flaw of the program will be gone. Should be released soon.

It's a game - so I don't want to turn it into a job (have enough of numbers and stuff at work!) - So I use EDDiscovery and EDSM to keep a track of where I've been - and Notepad for Prospecting. I usually take screenshots of anything interesting as well.
