Parks Kent Island Park

There was an older RCT3 park I made that you should check out if you want to understand some things in this post. You can view it here -> http://www.shyguysworld.com/Archive/index.php/topic,16467.0.html

My first true park I’ve made since Planet Coaster has released is an old favorite of mine. 2 years ago, I began work on Kent Island Park, to create a timeline park. Unlike most of my previous parks, this one was planned extensively right down to the terrain it sits on.

This first park had many flaws. Flaws that I tried to correct in a new version, which turned out to be worse than the original, however there were still some things I was able to pull from it to improve the general concept of KIP. These things, plus a few others from the first version, were all culminated in the Parkitect version, and that version was successful. But there was just something about Parkitect that bothered me, something that took away from the feeling the original had. Because of the isometric perspective that Parkitect had, I lost the photography aspect of the park. There was just something about being on the paths like a guest that made the whole thing feel alive.

Now in Planet Coaster I've taken what I've learned from the past 2 years of revision and applied them to create the best version of the park I have yet.

Note that there are comparison photos in the spoilers.

Starting off with what is one of the only lasting images of the park since it was first made. That being the entrance.

The entrance was one of the hardest things to get right in the first version. Nothing really fit with what I was looking for, and I didn’t even know what I was looking for. In the end it just sort of came together and that was it.

Bay Street is the park’s version of a mainstreet. The original intention was to build in the style of architecture found at Fells Point in Baltimore, since the park is in Maryland. This didn’t have that 70s-amusement park touch to it though, which was the original intention seeing as it was a timeline park. Parkitect brought about the current layout of the street, and not much has been changed.

The view across the water has completely changed from the original.

Next update should bring about Colonial Ville, and subsequently Old Town (Assuming my computer can manage it). Thanks for viewing.

Nice pictures. Looks like the beginning of a great park. [up]

Wow! Beautifully translated from RCT3 to PC while maintaining its charm. The style could be described as generic (in that, it's a style that fits many park "types", trademark or otherwise), but not in a bad way, it really does have its own charm.

The architecture looked awfully familiar and then I read the post in full; now I remember this project from SGW.

Really Nice, and charming.[up]
Thanks!

Is Kent a reference to Kent in England by any chance?
No. Kent Island is a geographical feature in Maryland. The park is built on it.

Looking good. How did you make the top of the Emporium? Hmm, research time.
Thanks! The top of the Emporium was made of wooden posts and a LOT of patience.

Thank you!

Thanks! Nice to know you remember the project.

So, over the weekend, I got my big Christmas present a bit earlier than expected. I can now build even bigger parks in Planet Coaster, and the graphics have gotten a bit better as well.
I managed to finish most of the new Colonial Ville, and not many changes have been made from the previous versions. Once again comparisons are in spoilers.

For a while I had trouble deciding what to do with the old Simmons Estate after they got evicted from their property. The best idea that came through was to make the building into a park museum (may use this as a presentation format for a storyline later on.)

Because the story of the original park ended right after the fire, The Voyage never made it to the forums. It stands over the footprint of the building that burned down.

Screamin' Eagle was the park's first coaster. As of now, in the current storyline, this coaster was manufactured by National Amusement Devices and carries Century Fliers as trains. The coaster layout itself is loosely based on the Zippin' Pippin' (also happens to be where the name comes from).

The church was the icon of Colonial Ville in the original, however in the original due to RCT3's building limitations, the steeple never came out how I originally intended it to. Now with PC's advanced builder, it can be built the way it was always meant to be.

Next update we will be viewing the Old Town area of the park. After that we, or rather you, are in uncharted territory viewing areas of the park that never came to be.
