Kickstarter Named NPC's

If your wife is 'Mrs [can't remember] of North Wales', I blew her up in a RES a couple of months back ;)
No, but if it's "Mrs. Trellis" that's a reference to "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue", a very long-running comedy game show on BBC radio. The first time I saw that NPC I literally laughed out loud. There are a lot of British humour-inspired NPC names floating around out there but it's difficult to know whether they were put there by backers or by the development team.

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen Mrs. Trellis since sometime around early beta even though she's still out there, so maybe it's simply that the database is so big that the odds of seeing any particular one are slim. That still doesn't explain why some of us are seeing the same names more frequently, unless it's an early attempt at persistence. Maybe NPC names are weighted by location? I don't tend to move around a lot unless exploring.

.... Not as much as Terry Negus (my own space stalker), wherever I went, he was there. ......

Ahhh yes, Terry Negus. For a couple of months after release he was always the first NPC I'd see when starting up the game and exiting the station. Wonder what he's doing these days? Haven't seen him for a while.

Mrs Trellis is still out there, saw her a couple of weeks ago busy writing letters...

I have seen said NPC countless times. Not as much as Terry Negus (my own space stalker), wherever I went, he was there. I was pretty sure I took a screenie of Grashropp Naboo, but alas, loads of other weird n wonderful names though.

awesome.... thank you for letting me know :)

I have seen Gra'Shropp Naboo in a Sidewinder at a nNav beacon on 05/04/2015. Not sure where though.

It took me 8 months play before I finally met (and killed) my NPC. He was mostly harmless in an Imperial Courier. The universe wasn't big enough for the both of us. :)

I'm still waiting to see mine. But is there a Kevin Lush amongst us? Because I was stalked by him relentlessly until recently. He even brought along his clone once- two of them in the same instance. Now he's gone I'm kinda wondering if he's found someone better...

THIS!

I have seen a small number of names many many times, and so it does make me wonder...........

I wonder if the selection function is biased according to the location you are in the galaxy, giving some crude NPC persistence by making you tend to see the same names in the same systems?

All,

Simple Question. Is there a way to verify your named NPC is in the game? I have been playing a long time and have never come across the name I submitted. I know it is very possible....even probable that I
I will never meet them but I would like to verify the NPC is actually part of the naming database. I know the name was approved.

In case your wondering what the name is

Grashropp Naboo

Does the Backers app still exist?

Mods, Perhaps this should be moved to the backers forum but this one gets more traffic so I figured I would start here.

Peace.
Not seen that name.

I've yet to see my Kickstarter NPC (it's my wife's name) [...]
For the record I finally came across a mission using my wife's name today. The target was a religious leader, a sort of 34th century televangelist spamming the comms channel with offers of salvation in exchange for donations. My wife works part time as a verger so this was an unexpectedly amusing choice of role for her temporary alter ego.

I'm just happy to know the name is in there and the system is working.

Why Withnail? Why!? You brute! I thought we were friends.

(Just in case people are still hoping to see other forum-goer names out and about)

Don't think there is, but it will be there. I was playing for 7 months before I saw mine, and I haven't seen him since. It's a bit galaxy.

To be honest I think the NPC naming is one of the more immersion breaking aspects of the game. I would have preferred ship names --we could have had more fun with it, too.

I dunno.... there are a few which I am surprised made it in but for the most part it is the CMDR names I find most odd

That being said, I tend to think of them as call signs rather than actual names (ie it is unlikely Mad Mike would be a real name, but it could well be a call sign)

I have not only seen Mrs Hellhawk (NPC Janine Street) in game, I have shot her, destroyed her, and scooped her cargo.

Mwa-ha-ha! I told her about it and she was ... not amused.
