Newcomer / Intro Kill Pirate Missions - but need to access planetary Comm link first - advice...?

I'm ok with missions to intercept a Pirate Lord at a certain time in System X; no problem.

BUT I need some advice on those missions that require interrogating a planetary source for his location
(Often on the mission board these read ' Urgent Kill Order...' or suchlike)

Specifically, my problem is accessing the required Comm Link (or whatever) without getting my SRV destroyed. Happens almost every time!

Any advice...?

if I am not understand wrong, u need to approach from a better point? I mostly take cover of building to approach and give full power to my WEP. if an alert occurs I try to be ready.

Or

Before alerting them I snipe from Distance the turrets. IF there are skimmers around, they try to fly to me. I snipe from distance them too. and I approach a clean base without defenses you know.

iI just put 4 to shields and 2 to engines, approach carefully up to the edge of the trespass line (red border) and stand there a bit. Locate the target comms antenna, and plan the fastest rout to there. If the rout needs some SRV jumping put engines 4, shields 2. Then rush to the objective, stand when within 50 meters, go to turret vision and scan it. If you do it fast usually the defenses get alerted after the scan. Then I always have 4 to engines and "fly" to my ship. And I say fly because if you run and its low gravity (almost always) you will tumble most of the time. Try to sprint -> jump towards your ship and then keep pressing the jump button.

Some side notes:
1) Now even if you don't make it, if the Srv is destroyed you auto appear into your ship. SRV costs about 5K, and these missions are very rewarding in cash (if allied with the faction who gives it it may pay up to 2 million
2) As I said try to go carefully towards the trespass zone. Main reason is to not take damage from needless tumbling. You want to be at 100% hull when the security start hunting you. If you have taken considerable damage, then go to synthesise (right hand panel) and select repair SRV.
3) If you really want the SRV you can Synthesise boosted hull for it. You need to have the appropriate materials though.
4) If you see many security ships flying around, and your vessel does not have strong drives and/or shields, dismiss it before scanning the data link. Just accept the loss of the SRV. Because these ships will start firing as soon as you board back to your ship. And if you can't boost fast enough or have your shields hold some firepower for a while, you might get in troubles far greater than the loss of an SRV.
5) Sometimes the target will be atop a building. Don't be confused. The SRV can fly up to very high levels with persistent jumping and 4 pips to engines. If the target is high but within 50 meters when you are on the ground you can scan it from there.

I better write here in necro thread than start a new one...
My issue is with the planetary drones called Goliath, I approached the base in lawless system to scan some data for the mission. I killed the skimmers and destroyed turrets, but could not kill the Goliath. My SRV even with all pips to weapons can only strip it from shields then the energy from guns is fully depleted and also the hull goes down so slowly when shooting from SRV, I cannot strip more than 1-2 points of hull. When the energy replenishes, drone's shield regenerates to 50% and I only can repeat, which is pointless. I withdrew from SRV to ship (Asp) and tried to kill Goliath but he used the rockets and stripped my Asp from shields very fast, I managed to escape with 50% hull. I tried to deal with Goliath using Multi Cannons but couldn't get a lock on. OI Point Defence was useless against Goliath rockets and I could not shoot them down by MCs. It was a ridiculous experience, a huge ship can die from a drone :oops:. What did I miss? What guns can kill Goliath, pulse lasers, guided missiles?
 
The bi-weave shields of my Asp Explorer are not good, maybe 230 points, went down quickly when I tried to scan from ship. This Goliath' rockets are such a pain.
I'll try with premium ammo, havent tried it yet. I'm not sure if I have resources though...
 
If you're fighting anything you're doing it wrong - you should be on your way out as soon as you scan the data point. Most people would use an appropriate ship though, not a slow one made of paper...

Edit: And it's a 'kill pirate' mission ... in an Asp ... 🤔 bizarre 🤷‍♀️

Which missions make you do the timed beacons? All the ones I do make me scan a single point ... I though the timed runs were just for mat farming 🤔

Not kill pirate mission I am sure. There used to be missions that required you to do the timed data-points which disabled the security to allow you to access the hub or some such point. I am going back a few years though, I have not done any base-scan missions in a very long time. There were some really intricate ones, requiring climbing walls and jumping gaps to get to the required places to scan the timed data points.

I just like to use the Asp Explorer for many different things, mostly exploring :).
Here I made a mistake though, telling that it was a scanning mission - I was thinking it was from the description, but apparently I had to destroy something in this base and once I approached the base 2-nd time (after recovering and switching rails+multicannons to cannons+guided missiles), I just hit this structure with single missile and mission was completed. And it seems this structure was powering the Goliath since the shooting stopped. When I was about to leave, the system police appeared out of nowhere and attacked. Died quickly from my 4 cannons and 2 missiles. Not bizarre :sneaky: at all.
