Kill Warrant Scanner shows bounty but I get wanted for firing

OK,

I suspect I"m missing something here:

Searching for bounties at a Nav point, I scanned a ship that came up clean. Then I used my KWS and it showed an active bounty. I engaged the ship, firing, then received a bounty on my head for doing so. I don't get it.

1. Whats the purpose of the KWS if I find a bounty but can't engage?

Any help would be appreciated.

Unless they are wanted by the authorities in the system you are currently in then firing on them will be a crime in that system. (unless youre in an anarchy system of course, then anything goes)

If you are in an Imperial system and scan someone and they have a bounty, but its an Alliance or Federation bounty, you'll get fined by the Imperial authorities for firing on them.

KWS shows all bounties in all systems. Clean means they are not wanted in the current system, and so the local authorities treat them as innocent people. If I am wanted in the US but live in a small town in Yemen, the local authorities will still punish someone for kidnapping me.

You realise you've just tipped off the CIA to your location.

KWS shows all bounties in all systems - if your target is 'Clean' in the system your in then it's a crime to open fire, unless your in an Anarchy system.

To be honest with you - I found the KWS the most useful in Anarchy systems for that reason, it will mean after a while though you have to travel to each factions space to claim your rewards.

Also if you choose an Anarchy system with a Black market you can also sell all of the cargo from blown up ships without risk.

So am I correct to assume that the KWS is worthless, unless in an Anarchy system?

Not at all.

1. NPCs are often wanted by more than one faction. If you don't scan them, you get ONLY the local bounty.
2. If the bounty is good enough (it usually isn't...) maybe it's worth the rep hit and the bribe money to clear your bounty.

No you are incorrect. KWS will earn you more in all systems but make sure they are wanted in the system you are attacking them in otherwise you breakthe law.

while this is supposed to be true, it doesn't seems to work anymore since 1.06

i spent around 4h in the weekend doing only bounty hunting, and not ONCE did the bounty changed after the kws scan

also seems that the "no bounty" bug occcurs way more often, as well as ghost interdictions.....hope they bring 1.07 very fast cause game is a total wreck bounty hunting wise.....

OK, so to summarize:

- Bounties are only "good" in the system where they were issued
- If a target is Wanted AND I use the KWS to get bounty details, then I get the kill AND the bounty for that faction, even if remote
- If a target is clean in the local system but has bounties elsewhere, he's considered innocent.

thx guys.

Do you have more than one scanner (e.g. KWS and cargo scanner) bound to the same fire key?

There's a bug there in that the KWS does nothing in that case - it ignores the warrant info.

I'm still getting bounties for other areas since 1.06.

I have to say, I don't recall seeing Clean change to Wanted in the HUD after a KWS. He is still Clean in the system you are in regardless of the KWS. It does change in the target UI of course. I wouldn't risk it myself, unless in an anarchy system. But I have found that if you fly around the guy a bit he will inevitably open fire on you and if you wait for a hit to land then you can whack him.
