KILL WILL volume 2

The fault lies not in our ships, our modes, nor our foes, but in ourselves.

Then the possibility of having to pay the entire cost of a rebuy should deter you from using your Corvette to attack other players unlawfully.

My CMDR has even fewer assets than Aashenfox and my Corvette always has Elite NPC crew.

I still consider doing things like this medium-low risk, thanks to the wonders of high-wake:

For the record they tried to destroy my CMDR's FDL first, so I came back with the vette to see if I could down one before having to leave...unfortunately not, but it was fun.

Judging by the regen spin on his shield (I missed quite a lot of the livestream, so I don't know if the actual module panel was shown) he was actually using the default 6E with no boosters (or similar), which has only 225 MJ versus thermal (with 4 pips) and only 136 MJ with the 2 pips he actually had. Somehow, I think this might have affected his survivability, since a real mining T-9 could relatively easily have had 33 times as many shields.

Entirely likely, and aggravated by the fact he just kind of sat there like a rabbit caught in headlights every time it happened.

Not exactly ED's proudest moment. [sad]

I disagree. We need more of these, so that the dev team understands the average player experience. No dev magic and no walled off test nebulas. We've gotten to the point we are with griefing and combat logging, because these developers don't play their own game the same way the rest of us do. Now Will has experienced the other aspect of mining, getting home in one piece, maybe we'll see some better defensive features.

it was ed doing the mining. will didn't even get to drop, he was blown up while travelling and, most importantly, scanning.

his awareness isn't really great, though it has to be considered he was hosting a stream at the same time and seemingly more focussed on recruiting peeps for his squadron, but this could raise some concern about having to scan in 'slow supercruise' being oblivious to everything else. what could possibly go wrong?

The whole thing was a shambles.

An hour of Ed cruising around in a belt like a headless chicken, with zero results, and Will getting nuked every time he jumped into SC while stubbornly insisting that he didn't mind cos he was busy administering Squadron stuff.

I totally might be projecting here but he reminded me of the scrawny kid, at school, who insisted that he didn't mind being forced to do the bully's homework cos he really enjoys writing essays.

And then, when somebody asked Will how often he played ED and he struggled and squirmed to answer... pure cringe. >_<

But, yeah.
Overall, there wasn't anything in that stream that a casual viewer might see and then think "Hey! That looks like a game I'd really like to buy!" and it only served to provoke a variety of questions in those who do understand what they were looking at.

hm, i don't have a strong opinion on that. i don't expect them to be pros, a lot of players (probably most) aren't either. yes, the "do you even play your own game?" is a thing, and is substantiated, but not because of skill but because of deep running issues. in that sense, ed not finding a single lode, or they not getting around the scanning thing very well, was more telling. but it doesn't mean they particularly, as community managers, have to set an example. there's already a lot of that on youtube. they are obviously more focussed on the stream than on gameplay. that they keep doing it in open even speaks for the guys. plus i always find will's antics really funny :D

I thought it was more interesting watching Ed get continually 'griefed' by the pulse-wave-scanner, and it's failure to reveal an explodable asteroid. :p

Sad but true.
