Woops! I have no idea why I misread that (other then the fact I'm going in for eye surgery in 3 weeks ;-)

They are? Mine's been a dream with the exception of the poor sound. Way better then my older Rift. A friend of mine also bought his about the same time, seems OK for him in ED as well. What problems are you hearing about?
An interesting development. I'm skeptical that it can compete with a device designed specifically for PC, but we'll see. A further drop in frame-rate on the Quest too, but then it has better OLED screens.Read this. Rift S may now be somewhat redundant.

(I've heard bad things about the Rift-S sound in particular.)
Nice to hear! On the other hand, the Rift S does come with a headphone jack, right?I have such a helmet. The sound is OK.
right?
I think I’d go with a Rift Quest. They just announced the cable to wire it to a PC so you can get the power of your rig with slightly better optics. You’d then have the freedom of wireless for more casual games. After three wonderful years together a momentary lapse of concentration saw me tripping over the wire and sending my Rift headset flying across the room. The left screen has been cracked, so it’s a write-off. Beyond gutted.(and with Fleet Carriers just around the corner)
Anyway, I’m looking for recommendations regarding a new headset. My initial reaction was to replace it with a Rift S as soon as possible (having lost a limb), but looking at the specs and questionable design decisions I’m thinking that it may be better to save for something at the higher end of the market.
Where would your money go if you were buying a new headset in the near future? Given recent events, the Vive Cosmos with a wireless adapter has its appeal. Any thoughts/advice appreciated. I’m running a RTX 2080.

Yea I’m following it closely. I have a launch CV1. The thought of playing Superhot untethered in my backyard sounds very appealing. I hope that any frame issues will be tweaked with software and firmware updates to also be able to run Elite as I do now.If this feature delivers on its promises, the Quest may very well be the way to go, because of the higher resolution and proper OLED blacks (and of course the versatility of a system that can go portable, not to mention hardware IPD adjustment in case you need that). I'd be wary of the reported framerate drops and compression artifacts though, it remains to be seen if those will still be there on release. Also, there is the difference in subpixel layout.
