Killing Banshees at Spire Spites

Hi,

is killing Banshees at the spire sites easier using the scorpions weapons and „staying in the car“ or with the various video documented plasma weapon attacks on foot? Is it possible to kill all Banshees on foot solo in either way at a spire site? I would be happy if you shared some of your experiences! I am asking because it is very convenient to have them all killed, as they do not respawn as long as the instance is running, and you can kill Orthruses in peace after that.🤗

Thanks in advance, Mike

As long as you dodge the bomb swarms reliably, killing one on foot might be easier(though not easy) as the Banshee’s repeater weapon has a quite low damage per shot. Explosives from the L-6 not recommended unless you want the rocket to blow up in your face, since the Banshee appears to have point defense(or its repeater weapon doubles up as that, dunno). Plasma preferred.

You can also access the weak points of the Banshee more easily on foot. The thruster at the back in particular appears to be, à la Halo Wraith style.

hello^^ at first I was using Scarab/Scorpya+onfoot, depending on situation, now most of the times my ship. Fly and drive safe, happy and not hungry out there, Commander^^

Recently made for this purpose the vulture, maybe more for fun and style, kraits can handle it more convincingly, but it enough sturdy, maneuverable, can easily land everywhere, 1v1 glaive, be outfitted with srv and size 4 corrosion resistent cargo rack. First clean out with missiles the revenants around, then go on foot and kill the banshee with the executioner.
But i must also say it all works well in solo. In open banshees can be bugged or act unpredictable - i had invisible, underground banshees, or those that fly too high.
Almost forgot - 5g Artemis suit with night vision, increased battery, jump assist and sprint duration is highly recommended for that location.

I think there is some gap between killing banshee itself and killing it for farming.

Recently it seem to be more preferred to bomb from sky using "3~5 x Enhanced AX Missile Rack". Many people say that firing right under Banshee makes some kind of splash damage. But team is needed who clearing Scouts and keeping instance for you, because missile is not good to deal against a lot of Scouts and Orthruses.

So, I think, if you are playing at Solo mode, you need some weapons and gears. For example,
  • 2 x EAXM > killing Revenants on sky
  • Personal Plasma Weapon > killing Banshee on ground
  • 4 x MGPC/MGSC > killing Scouts and Orthruses
  • ... and Caustic Sink Launcher, Repair Limpet
(SRV is not recommanded at "SOLO" mode, because there are many Banshees at center area of Spire Site.)
Using these, first you clear Revenants and Banshee, and then you can farm Orthruses easily. This video is example of killing Banshee.

But there are 10 Banshees at Spire site, and this job may be quite boring. So I don't recommended this at Solo mode.

Note that you do not need AX missiles to kill revenants, regular missiles work just as well. The only reason to use AX missiles is if you're also going to be killing Orthrus (you're most likely not going to be able to hit scouts with them).

Oddly, on foot right under a banshee with plasma weapons is fastest.

😳10? .. didn‘t know there are so many! Whew, I am wondering if anybody kills them all solo. Spire sites really seem to be made for teams primarily 🧐. Btw, I found out that you just clip through Banshees with your ship when one was flying very high near me. Tried to ram it but the collision system seems to be inactive for them. Also all shots from two plasma chargers went just through them when I wanted to shoot them in the goinads with that 🤷🏽‍♂️

colission box for Banshees indeed strange, but I assure you - they definitely have it. Ramming and shooting works, just need a bit of practice :) Also there are many videos on youtuba with guides and tutorials and ship builds for soloing Spire Sityas. In my instance I always have no more than 8 Banshyas and the best tactic which is always works for me is to land south-west from Main Spire, clean 3 Banshyas on west side (could be 4), retreat, repair, restock in ship, clean Scoutyas, then land on south-east side, clean 2-3 there. Rinse and repeat with center, then it's safe and fully controlled by you for all those shiny moneys to take :D Tho I have fully engineered ship and gunyas and suityas, there are reports that low-mid engineered ship and G1 suits and guns can do it too. But even better strategy is to join AXI and train a bit with them before venturing on your own. Hope this helps at least a bit^^

Thank you very much! Sounds like a well planned approach.. will try ir👍

about Banshya's hitboxes - just tried to ram couple and ship just flew through them and no damage inflicted...to them :D I'm in rebuy screen now :D don't know, my memory could've played tricks on me, but I can swear I killed one by ramming couple of weeks ago...need someone here more experienced on that matter :D

I am afraid you really cannot ram or directly hit them with weapons from a ship ,.. FDEV rather wants us to kill them on foot. The only other way is with dumbfire AX missiles targeted on the ground below them, so they get hit from below from the AX explosive spread 🤷🏽‍♂️.. which is not very much fun by the way. I did it with 3x Large and 2x Medium Enhanced AX Missiles fired from a Krait Mk2. Takes less than a minute for one Banshee.

But they are needed for the Banshee, aren’t they?

I'm doing it with EAX Multicannons + Beam laser, so for shipya's weapons they definitely have hitboxes.

I have tried it with Salvation Plasma Chargers and attacking the downside of one that flew very high, they just shot through it🧐 (though I successfully released the trigger when pointing at the goinads from close up) 🤷🏽‍♂️

You really say you can kill them with EAXMCs??

I didn't try anything else besides EAXMCs and Beam laser, doing it for about 3 weeks now, maybe more :D

They are no valid targets from ship, no target box, and they are not displayed in the contacts. So you just point with gimballed axmcs in their direction and kill them successfully that way? I have never managed to do do that, I tried axmcs on revenants several times.

when you have no target in active aim, they just act like fixed, so a bit of love, a bit of aiming, a bit of practice and you're good ^^
Tried to ram Revyas now, gathered 4 of them and can't...in next couple of days I'll try with smaller ship :D I like experiments :D
on low altitudes your bullets, charges, fancy laser lines etc don't land exactly on target sights, need to keep that in mind. Go somewhere safe and peaceful with good sights and zero your weapons. This way you'll know how they behave at different altitudes, angles, movement speed. They will leave marks on ground for you to check.
