Killing Women is Unsavoury (Odyssey)

Dear FDEVS,

Please can we have something like a 'Slider' tool in setings whereby we can select the gender of targets in Kill Missions?

The slider could be a percentage slider with 0% in the middle and 100% at either end, eg: (MALE 100%..........0..........100% FEMALE). Zero means an equal spawn rate of male and female NPC kill targets, whether they be mission targets, security patrol, or scavengers that need to be killed in the mission.

That way we can feel better about killing or murdering Female NPC's, or not killing female NPC's at all.

Can we be able to select the gender percent spawn mix that we kill?... only in missions where killing is a part of the mission (including CZ if in Solo mode); all other missions could remain as normal with regard to the rates of males and females spawned.

The idea of killing women is very unsavoury to me and a bit off putting, and surely I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

Surely there is no reason why we MUST be forced to kill female characters when something like a slider selector can be used as described above.
It would make the game more enjoyable to know that as a man you will be killing only male NPC's if you don't like killing women - it feels better, but we would be able to choose with a slider or similar.

Many players don't even like the idea of killing at all, which is common knowledge I think. And for many of those players the idea of killing women will probably be even more unlikeable. And as Odyssey seems to have a lot of killing, these potential players may be able to buy into Odyssey more easily rather than shun it if they new they could choose the gender of the kill targets that the game will spawn for them.
And women players may also not like the idea of killing a particular gender and may welcome the ability to set their choice too.

The difference between Odyssey and Horizons is that in Horizons you are killing 'Ships' whether they were piloted by male or female NPC's and you don't get to see the NPC's at all... but now in Odyssey you can be looking into their faces as you shoot them dead up close. This change in the 'Killing Mechanics' for Odyssey was significant enough to increase the age rating of the game.
Who you kill, and how you kill is no insignificant thing as I'm sure you fully appreciate.

What do other readers think of the 'Slider Chooser' solution? It is a simple setting to implement.

Thanks for reading this.

Killing anyone is unsavory, well almost anyone. However, it's a game, a FPS MP game at that. Your slider would effect everyone in your instance. Are you going to ask for a color slider as well?
I prefer a more egalitarian future myself. If you are wanting this for solo only, then sure, why not. As long as it doesn't take a dev away from anything more important.

Oh, an in b4 someone asks for a slider granting the ability to kill off the occupants of "Little Lamplight".

You do realize how sexist this post makes you sound right? If you feel killing is wrong don't take missions that have you killing people. Male or female doesn't matter murder is murder.

The slider you proposed will draw in a sexist crowd who think all ___ are evil and must be killed. Do you want the game to cater to those types?

Oh and by the way, the ships your currently blowing up for fun are piloted by a person and may have passengers on board. Both male and female.

So its ok to kill men but not ok to kill women?

How do you know the women doesn't want to be identified as a man? Did you ask her? Should we have a gender slide too?
Gee its the year 3000 and something, think how many options you'll be able to cycle through

An idea completely at odds with how women in the armed forces have been campaigning for years to be given the same rights to serve in the infantry and other frontline roles. Quite frankly the view expressed here is outdated and I'm sure some women will find it quite offensive since you're basically asking that they can be removed from sight on the battlefield.

FDev absolutely can't do this without landing themselves in all sorts of trouble over it.

I'm certainly not going to say anything against any stance you take in how you play the game. I have my own personal stance against slavery. I have never traded in slaves* and, in the past, I have actively worked against slave traders

I'm just wondering how you've managed this self-imposed limitation in the past. Did you run away from ships that have had female-named pilots? Did you check to see if there were any female passengers on board ships you were targetting?

*...apart from a community goal once where the slaves I bought were set free

Well, I'd say it's a different thing to shoot an opponent who's face you can't see, to coming face-to-face with them.

This is a bad idea! Where do you want to stop?
Diversity? Age? Skin Color? If I would have problems to blow up pixels in combat suits I would not recommend to „kill“ them at all, or better from far distance. I don’t want my favorite space opera to be demonized or even politically involved.

sexist moraline slider. cool idea. wait ... not really.

A slider for this is a terrible idea.

In addition to what everyone else said above, the flipside of an "after you, milady" tips fedora option is creating a sadistic misogynist weirdo's fantasy option, where you drag the slider all the way in the opposite direction and suddenly you're a lone, gun-toting man in a universe populated entirely with young women.

That's, at best, quite an uncomfortable dynamic and, at worst, could be accused of creating a creepy, serial-killer wannabe's playground. Being able to fine-tune the demographic of your victims to meet your tastes. It's not a good thing.

I know that's not what OP is asking for, but it's a byproduct of it.

Leave it alone. Equal opportunity hot lead.

Putting the fact that this is just a game aside for a moment:

If you don't want to kill, then don't go to war.
The key rule there is to kill the threat before it kills you or someone else. There is no gender for soldiers. If you took a weapon and went to a warzone to shoot people - you have no gender anymore. You are a soldier, and will be treated as such.

I've got a better suggestion. How about a slider in the forums which lets you regulate the amount of stupid threads shown?

God, this is even better than the "I feel offended by slavery being in the game" thread we had a while back. Added to my collection of favourite threads. :D

There is no slider in real life either.
Also... You are shooting at pixels.

I personally feel it is ridiculous not to be willing to attack pixels that represent females, while at the same time having no problem attacking pixels representing males.
I do not understand the mindset.

It would become interesting if there were true moral decisions to make.
For example if you are playing a professional hired assassin then you might refuse jobs that involve killing innocent humans, no matter their sex, gender, or whatever.
The game would have to give you a clear context and information of the target.
Also the game world would have to react to the choices you make.

I have played games that give you such moral choices and I think that is where games become really interesting and engaging.
