Kinect - "Xbox Record That !" - No longer works

I've noticed that the Kinect no longer responds - to my request command to "Xbox Record That !" :(

Although the White (X) light remains on it looks like the infra red sensors get turned off and I presume the voice recognition goes with it. Have the devs dropped support for the basic xbox voice controls in order to scrounge more processing power / memory ?- Gary ?

I know a double tap of the Xbox button with snap a screen shot, is there a similar shortcut for 5 min video capture or do I now need to drop back to the main Xbox menu and shout ?

Your responses and insight are welcomed.

It's Cortana we have to appeal to now on Xbox. You have to say "Hey Cortana" to get her attention, then say "Take a screenshot" for a still pic, or "Record that" for a video.

Thanks F.G. / Twiggier

I'll check through my settings maybe it might have something to do with which microphone in game chat's use.....son uses Headset for Overwatch .

Do you know if it's in E.D. or Xbox configs ?

Still works for me. Check your settings, may have turned off voice commands/game dvr.

Looks like I need to experiment :S

The old voice commands still work.

They're under the Kinect settings I believe. Also, (if this is what you meant by other mics, if not, ignore this part) always turn off the Kinect's "use as mic" setting. Its common courtesy, as no one wants to hear the Kinect used as a mic, because they not only hear you, they also hear themselves and everything else going on in your room. I immediately mute anyone who didn't turn it off.

Yeah its the cortana thing.

Though, because now you have to say "Hey Cortana" its much easier to just dubble press the xbox button and Y.

"Hey Cortana" just takes to long.

As I said before, you can still use the older commands. I have yet to use Cortana.

''Hey Cortana''.. ''Hey Cortana'' ''HEY CUORTANA?'' ''HEY CØRTANA?'' ''Piece of biowaste..''

Later that day..

''Oh yea I was out blowing Sidewinders up in Eravate *Cortana pops up* it was pretty fun.'' *Cortana searches ''It was pretty fun'' on Bing (the superior search engine).*

It's cortana for me as well. Kinda annoying but handy for some things, just not screenshots or clips.

Have you tried the old commands? If so and they don't work, have you checked the settings to see if its an option? Because I have yet to use Cortana and I had access to her for quite some time due to being in the preview program.

What we really need is the Xbox equivalent of the pc voice attack. Why have the developers not added this to Xbox I don't know because using the Xbox controller really sucks and you can't even add a joy stick.

I presume because 'Voice Attack' is a third party PC app - and not part of the joint code for PC/Xbox alignment and would probably require a degree of investment in time and resources that FD aren't willing to provide give the 'Niche' that Kinect ownership has become - personally I believe this would feature would prompt a lot of E.D. owners to pop out to C.E.X and pickup a Kinect.

It's not the ED developers fault, it's Microsoft. They don't allow certain changes on Xbox, so you can't have PC type addons. That's why we are in our own universe and not combined with the PC players.

I was absolutely raging when they introduced cortana - as if I want to say "hey cortana" like a twit every time just to turn it on; why have they changed it, why cant i use the old commands, this is ridiculous, it all takes twice as long etc etc - imagine my embarrassment when I found an option to revert back to the old commands in setup.

You should check if Kinect didn't bug out.

With the constant back-and-forthing it has a tendency to bug out. Rebooting the console fixes the issue.

Since they introduced the ability to free Kinect allocated resources for games, the Kinect now constantly switches modes between games/dash/apps/etc. Sometimes it just ends up in a gitched, unresponsive state which usually fixes itself after a while (like a minute or two) like if it's rebooting itself (which it probably does actually) but there are times where it just stays bugged out indefinitely (in which case all its LEDs are off in my experience).

You can check in the Kinect settings and if the console shows a mostly blacked out, semi-glitched screen, then Kinect crashed and couldn't recover automatically.

Ok so this confirms theres an option for the old commands. Glad I never had to bother, it never switched to Cortana for me.

I tried using Cortana the other day and quickly gave up.
It's my accent, the poor girl doesn't have a clue what I am saying. I tried asking her to launch Elite Dangerous, so she started googling "hotels in vegas" [haha]
