Krait = Emperor's New Clothes?

So they introduce the Krait MkII and everyone goes - Yippee a new ship:

I finally get around to trying one out and I end up:

Shape of canopy - why on earth stick it out like that?

Forward view - why would anyone have these two bright white light-sources up there in your view of a (generally) dark environment? Any pilot would take a hammer to these on the first flight.

Then, scooping stuff, mining or just approaching a station - blinded by the light (well four sets of bright flashing lights right in front of you).

(.. and I am not even going to mention the crazy bobblehead ordering.)

Am I missing the point or is this ship just a joke by the developers?

No, your points are all valid, but they're also all pretty much cosmetic.

I couldn't care less how much the canopy sticks out as long as I get to have have a Python with an SLF.

While I do really appreciate the effort you put into the thread, I never noticed these things. I also play in VR, where bright lights against dark space is super noticeable. Maybe your brightness settings are too high?

The cockpit is lower so you have a better field of view (and also so you can see the medium hardpoints deploy. That's awesome). I also really like cargo scooping in it, because I can just judge everything by looking at the actual material rather than using the little vector cargo scoop tool.

If those bother you that much don't fly it, I love my Krait(s), as do many others.

The light-in-your-face issue has been reported right after release and is under review (it seems to be worse for VR players), and another thing I'd like to have mitigated is the glaring dirt layer on the canopy glass which lets you watch neutron stars as through curdled milk.

Other than that, I've now got a new exploration ship and a new standard multipurpose ship for drifting around the bubble that replaces my trusty AspX (never managed to take a liking to the Python).

Yeah pretty much this.

I dislike the lights too - they're too bright and completely useless. But otherwise I do like the Krait and not just because it's new & shiny, because it's actually quite good.

One cool thing about the cockpit, it kind of reminds me of the one from the movie Alien, with the big ol' canopy around the chair.

The Krait has the nicest canopy in the game so far. Fantastic visibility for exploration, mining or combat, and it looks pretty good too.

The lights issue must be settings related, not an issue at all for some, major issue for others. I can tell from the pic that the proximity alert lights are MUCH brighter than they are for me.

Never noticed the lights.

Placement of the bobbleheads is great. I like them not being intrusive in the middle area, and also ending up behind the scanner or target hologram (annoys me on other ships)

Placement of the canopy is great. I like "hanging" under the ship, especially when flying over planet surfaces. Also it's exceedingly sexy to watch cannons and multicannons firing right next to your face.

And also, lets not forget the good parts.

Medium ship with an SLF and good firepower.
Not faction locked.
It's the Krait!
Good combat performance.
Good multi-role versatility.
Did I mentioned it's the Krait?
Nice module layouts and sizes.
It's also the Krait!

Also it's lightyears ahead of another ship that currently is the worst choice in the whole ship lineup; the Clipper.

So want to nitpick on a ship then Krait is definitely not the right tree to bark up.

Clipper needs <3

One less commander in a Krait.

That's Krait honestly. I'm hoping everyone else eventually dislikes it so I be the only commander in one.

Best ship.

More of a personal preference OP. I tried the Krait out in pvp and found it to be a little too "squishy" for my taste. I'll stick with my Chieftain, Vulture and Gunship

Never even noticed the lights but I’ll telly you what, that’s probably one of the best canopies in the game. Excellent visibility for pilot and multicrew, views are clear from most pertinent angles, canopy is fragile but mostly protected from above and you can actually look down which is kind of nice when landing. Ship is untra customiseable with massive differences that are all viable depending on loadout and modding. It kicks in a fight (pvp and pve) and can be made effective for just about any role in the game. IMO the best ship from FD yet, hands down. Thinking of selling my corvette to fund a second one + rebuys.

I actually found myself considering switching to a Krait for general taxi-work, as with the FSD booster it's like a DBX on steroids. Noice, as they say.

To be honest the clipper is fairly balanced. I've been flying one for the past week because most of the CMDRs flying the new Kraits are not running chaff. Makes my life easier.

I mean a fast regen 7C bi weave with 50-60% resists and 560mj of shields, 4200 armor and a boost speed of 607, Whats not to like? :p

Couple of rail shots to the distro and RIP that canopy XD

Unless you shield tank.

Good luck with that.

Always welcome a good scrap. You’re welcome to try ;)

OH RIP me then! XD I'll be on tonight for some scrapping! :p

Why lightweight on the Armor?

Work week for me. I’m off to bed. In game name is same as here though so send a friend request and I’ll def be on for the weekend. Friendlies or to the death. All good fun.
Light weight on armour increases the resistances much more than HD. Also, the Krait is funny with weight. It has a huge range in possible speed. I shave a bit on weight here and there to keep it faster than the Chieftain, but still a heavy build so not as fast as they can get. Also, the canon is where I vary weapons on this build. Sometimes it’s the cannon, sometimes a second pacifier and sometimes a LR Pulse turret. Very multicrew friendly and a joy to fly in fa off. If you look at the earlier model of the Krait presented at the Frontier Expo you can see the changes implemented since then. The cockpit was changed in an apparent manner to make it more enjoyable in VR. They moved two of the hardpoints precisely so you can see them all the time on either side of the pilot position. The shape of the canopy is from a technical perspective with such a dumb shape to provide the desirable viewing angles in VR. No sane engineer would be cretenic enough to protrude the whole cockpit section out in such a manner. It's a ship made for people to want to get and fly in VR and buy cosmetics for.

I got my Krait, A-Rated and fully engineered it on the spot, flew it for a couple of days and went back to my usual ships. It sounds great, looks funky but ultimately brings nothing to the table for me - Python is better for medium pad deliveries and has more space for modules so I can mount everything I need. For everything else my Anaconda jumps farther, carries more, hits harder, carries an SLF and can fit everything I'd ever need. The Krait is much ado about next to nothing. I don't even like the Krait hardpoint placements... To each his own *shrug*.
