Krait Phantom: A new Asp Explorer competitor!

The MKII jumps 9 lys less than the Asp, so it's not a real competitor for a fringe jumper like me. The Phantom though, NOW we are talking!

For fringe jumping like also myself, nothing comes even close to an Anaconda. The AspX is completely out for that IMO.

71.75ly unladen, 76.30 ly with 5t fuel left. This brings her to more than 150ly with jumponium and more than 300ly per jump with neutron boost. And this fully stacked with all the stuff you probably never will need out there. So there is still possibility of stripping her down even more!

Anaconda stays King of exploration after this update. Nothing is getting even close to this jumprange and capability.

Im already in the Que with a wad of cash waiting

if Coriolis is wrong then ill pass, if its right then wonderful ship.

Yes, except for one thing: I hate flying the Anaconda, and I can't stand exploring in it!

The Anaconda is just not an option for me, despite it being a magical super ship.

If these stats hold, I'll feel awfully silly that I just outfitted a Krait mkII. It's hovering at 56ly right now. My AspX, after basic engineering, is at 63 or 65ly (can't remember at the moment).

Phantom looks nice, though.

Don't feel silly, most of the internals are the same between the MkII and the Phantom.

It's only been a year here on ps4 and im completely tired of the aspx (Not sure how PC players put up with the lack of ships for 4 years) and refuse to go back to the anaconda to explore.

I think the Coriolis stats are bogus. Just plugging in the their e-rate core internals for the phantom into the Krait mk-ii give over 9ly e-rated laden jump range. Not even looked at the hull mass yet.

That's not quite so :) I know than annie can be stripped to 80+ Ly range, but as for the given configuration, it can actually be matched by a highly engineered DBX: 71.77 unladen and 74 max.

That's why i said, she can be stripped much more. I have an additional fueltank, class 6 SRV (!!), fighter hangar, GMRP, lots of utilities and other unnecessary stuff. And still outjumping everything else without compromises.

I find the Anaconda quite okay, the Krait MK.II that i have additionally will finally make the race for most of my expeditions except DW2. But the AspX??? I've never felt anything positive for this cockpit *urgh*

Welcome to how I feel now. I literally just took off on my mk2’s maiden voyage and there is a ship introduced that looks like it may be better. I will say this. I do love to colors of the phantom and the interior looks like it was actually finished inside and no loose wires or panels.

The loose wires and duct tape might convince me to stay in my existing Mk.II. It's exactly what I would actually do, in a real ship. ;) :D

... But not really. If the stats on the Phantom are better for what I do, and still have that overall cockpit view, the choice might be easy.

I believe I will be sticking with the Krait II; Phantom is more like an AspX alternative, but Krait II carries a SLF for better photographic options.

This is what I feel too. Even though my Krait mk2 is only at 42ly range, that is plenty for me. Also the SLF is so much fun and a nice distraction.

...it looks like we are finally getting an alternative to the Asp Explorer, and it is the Krait Phantom.
Yep, it might be time to retire my four year old Asp X for a bit!!! :D
Interesting. I was just looking at the standard Krait, from an exploration point of view. After engineering, it came in a 53 lys, compared to my AspX which gets 65 lys with similar build out.

For nostalgia, I'll be taking my AspX on DWE2, just like last time. The best part is that I've more than doubled the original jump range.

If the Phantom has a hull mass of 280t just like the ASPx, then it will basically have the same jump range as the ASPx. An alternative to the ASPx.

I've seen rumours of a 6 4 4 4 3 3 2 2 optional module slot layout, which would mean the ASPx would have the upper hand with a class 5 FSD booster.

On the livestream, they said the Phantom would have more cargo room than the Mk.II, so if that's the case, I can't see them dropping the either of the size-6 slots. But right now we really don't know.

To be clear, Ed and Adam didn't say the Phantom has more cargo room than the Mk II, it was the PC Gamer article which claimed that. Beta Coriolis has the Phantom with less cargo space than the Mk II, so one of the two is wrong. Frontier hasn't clarified it, so unless they do in the next few days we'll have to wait until it gets added to the beta to see what the internals actually are.
