Lagoon Construction

First, I want to say a big thumbs up to the Frontier teams for their jobs, all these new things seem incredible !! It's hard to hold back my excitement.

However, I also have a hard time restraining my disappointment on two points concerning one of the major novelty, the lagoons...

From what I have seen on the many videos released in recent days, to create an aviary we place a first round element, and we can add other parts that as we create geometric shapes. Here's a visualization below:

We start with a simple round aviary, then with the addition of a 2nd we move to a longer shape, with the addition of a 3rd it looks like a triangle and with the addition of the 4th element it looks like to a square (note that I find it a shame that placing the 4th does not turn this square shape into an equally large round aviary, which would be closer to what we see in the movie and allow the pterosaurs to have more height to fly… Below is a quick and very ugly montage of the idea 😅).

Back to the subject of my post. From what I understand, the creation of a lagoon works in part the same way. A round part at the base and we add other parts on the sides.

My first point, why? I can understand that an aviary has to follow a geometric shape because in its design (with a dome) too random shapes are not compatible. But the lagoon could be treated as a classic enclosure, with the placement of fences in lines or in curves. We start to place the first element, we trace the shape we want (maybe with a minimum size) and then when we reach the start section the lagoon starts to build.
With the current operation the lagoons will systematically have rather geometric shapes, either all in length, or rectangular, or triangular or in the form of trapezoids.

My second point: also, having watched several videos I noticed that we were obliged to place the elements like the feeder, the incubator, the observatories and the “shark feeding” in predefined places of the lagoon rather than being able to them place as we wish. Because of this, it is impossible to recreate what we see in the film, an arena made up of several observatories ...

I think it's such a shame to have worked the game in such a way as to give us a lot more creative freedom, both for the buildings and the decorations, to make us "pre-built" lagoons.

I hope I'm not the only one who is disappointed with the way this new addition has been handled, although I imagine Frontier has good reason for doing so...

Iam not dissapointed in the slightest way by that. i mean i dont need to recreate the movie i wanna make my own park and stuff the only thing i hope is that the viewing gallery goes down automaticly to simulate some kind of a show

Hmm by their mechanic for the choice of how to place it think of the lagoon as an upside down aviary, the dome going down into the ground instead of up. I can understand it would be a design choice for ease. I'm okay with it. It also makes sense to place all the stuff anywhere on the edge of the lagoon, gotta keep staff safe. I do hope they add a larger viewing platform.. (or wider would be a better word).

More freedom with this kinda stuff is always great, but I also kinda get why it is constructed like that and we can still somewhat decide what shape it takes, so it's not that bad I think.

What I'm way more interested in would be more options to customize it, like putting rocks and maybe some water plants in and set the water transparance like we can in PZ now. I think it's kinda a shame that we finally got these amazing marine reptiles only for them to be barely visible most of the time because the water's so murky you can't see anything, even when you click on and follow the animal :/

Honestly, as long as aviaries and lagoons are not static, but are actually teeming with life and gameplay depth, their shapes don't bother me in the slightest. I would LOVE, however, to see a JP styled Lagoon and Aviary. And other buildings. And Dinosaurs. And attractions.

I guess nobody reads previously posted threads. Check my post Lagoon Construction Questions.

According to Jens we will be able to make curved walls.

Jens is talking about the curved regular fences there as is shown in the trailer he posted, not the lagoon.

And I don't know if you watched any of the gameplay videos out there yet, but they clearly show that the lagoon is constructed exactly like the aviary, not like regular enclosures. What we got is a circle as a base that can be added on in specific places, so you can build somewhat rounded shapes with it I guess but are limited by that building system, it's not like the free placement of the normal fences.

I think you should be able to choose some size so that way there’s more room for something big to fly around like a quetzelquatlas

I’m pretty sure quetz would have hard time walking in current size dome

And flying in the montage dome
Dude, we are talking about Marine Reptile Lagoon construction, not an Aiviairy for flyers.

I agree. Frontier made a very big blunder on how they are currently allowing us to build 'lagoons'. They did have 2 years to work on it and imo came up short. Still I'm happy we have Marine critters, but it could have been so much better.

I agree with your observation. We'll see when the game comes out if it's still not too frustrating...
