Lakon Type-7 - a slightly out-of-place ship?

The odd place of a Type 7 is a consequence of a design decision to use measures of mass (tonnes), not measures of volume (m^3) to determine ship's cargo capacity. In reality the Type 7 would be a much more practical cargo ship than the clipper because it has a lot of space for bulky, but light cargo loads.

Personally I've always liked the look of the Clipper over most other things so it felt a bit of an achievement earning the correct rank to be able to buy one! At the time I didn't quite have the cash, but soon ground it out with the T6 (and occasional bounty hunting with the old favourite Cobra) and have been trading 232 tons a run for some time now! It has since got me the credits for a a Vulture too.

I have to say the Clipper handling is really nice, and the sounds! Really cool! The only thing about the handling is sometimes having to yell 'STOOOOP!' when trying to dock. I have embarrassed myself on a few occasions by hitting things while docking. Thank goodness for those shields! Saved me an insurance claim or two!

Also, on being interdicted, it is a case of 'oh hello ... GOODBYE!' as I hit BOOST BOOST BOOST and FSD quickly back to SC, with hardly a tickle on the shields usually. It outruns practically anything! And anything it can't isn't able to mass-lock it anyway!

Methinks you've used up your yearly quota for exclamation marks.

The Clipper is ok, but I just can't get over the hideous weapon-point placements

Not everybody can buy a Clipper and not everybody wants to be part of the Empire, so yeah, the Clipper is no Reason for the T7 not to exist.

And on top of that we players pretty much violate the Clipper by letting him do dirty work, but its also the Games fault for not having Passenger Transport yet. Transporting Cargo in a Clipper is like you tell Gisele Bündchen to clean your toilet, she can do it but its... wrong.

Still have a lot of love for the T7, mine is kitted out for mining, though I tend to just sit in it every now and again and enjoy that huge Bridge. So much larger than the T9

Eh? Haven't you got that mixed up? The T9 actually has a bridge that seats 3, whilst the T7 just has a one person cockpit.

Personally I like the T7

It's really the first ship that can make the money to upgrade another ship quite quickly and is the first decent trader

Agreed. It's also only about 18MCr to get it ready for trading. Sell the shields, BDS and lasers, fit some bigger cargo racks, C class FSD and off you go. 2MCr an hour.

I'm surprised at all the T7 fans. I appreciate it getting me from my Asp to my Python but I've kept my Asp and sold the T7 as soon as I could if that tells you anything.

So what is it about the T7 that people like? I did like the T6, btw. Even with A-thrusters it maneuvered like the tank it is. If you like that feel, that's cool. I can appreciate that even if it's not for me.

I am not really a _fan_ per se. I have a T9 now. But I quite liked it. It was fun to fly and looked great. Felt like piloting a real trading vessel. I like the T9 too.

I really like all of the Lakon T-series.. the cockpit, the general blockiness. They're workhorses- space trucks!

What really made me like the T7 is how cheap he always was to repair. Granted every ship is now cheap to repair, but he always was! I remember the first Time I got damage with my T7 coming from a Asp, my Hull was down to 70% and I had nightmares about repair Costs. And then it was just a few bucks, it was amazing! Asp did cost me more for just looking wrong at him.

and of course he just looks cool ;)
