Large glass window. Front of the Anaconda. What is this ? not the bridge!

Was checking out my new anaconda in the oculus rift 3rd person camera the other day and noticed this huge panoramic view window at the very front of the ships nose. Any idea what this is suppose to be? not the bridge that's on the top level of the ship. God I wish we could explore the inside of our ships!

It's likely an observation deck or supplimentary control room for landings.

The Anaconda seems to have quite a bit of habitable space, if you look around for it. There are windows at several locations, a door in the back of the bridge that likely leads to an engineering section, and eight escape pods/hatches half way between the bridge and the forward observation deck.

Its 10 Forward, of course...your onboard lounge/bar/restaurant that gives the best views in the galaxy (at least when you're not busy blowing stuff up).

This post is the only one I've seen where the internal model shows, one of which is the Anaconda. I don't know if the internals have changed since, but you might be able to see the room that corresponds to that window?

I'm almost positive those cutaways won't be representative of the actual internal structure, but the scale on the Anaconda does at least look correct.

yes this

Isn't the Anaconda supposed to be about the size of an Oil Tanker in real life?

I'd imagine the thing has lots of nice areas for storage but also habitable space the idea of an observation deck seems most likely to me. What would really be awesome is if/when we get a crew to have a "spotter" up front that calls distance to nearest starport wall or landscape feature on a planet so you don't bump into anything. Also cool would be to take over landing from that spot to get a better view for your surroundings.

But what do I know I'm a poor spacer at this rate I'll be able to afford one when Elite VI comes out.

Not unless you are talking about a very small oil tanker.

It's ~150m long.

Yeah, screenshot below compares an Anaconda with the USS Enterprise, I'd imagine a decent sized tanker would be the same size, or longer.

NEAT! wow the Imperial Clipper is that big? hmm that's surprising seems smaller to me. Also I'm guessing the Eagle and Sidey are only a bit bigger than the actual fighters on the deck of the carrier?

Man, that screen really puts things in perspective..too bad the little ships wern't shown a well. I'd like to see everything around that model of the Enterprise to give a real sense of scale (maybe the smaller ships sitting ON the carrier?).

That's about 1.7 football fields... that's pretty darn big!

How big is the Cobra then and source?

Yeah, the Anaconda is big, but modern ULCCs (not the only, or remotely most numerous tankers, but the most iconic) get into the ~500,000 ton range and tend to be about 400m long.

As for the Cobra and other ships, see this thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=146710

The ship models were pulled from the game and directly measured.

All the Elite ships are tiny in scifi proportions, even the "big ships" like the Anaconda, Clipper, Python and T9. And even compared to each other, none of the ships is actually that much bigger than the others. The Anaconda is the size of 3 Asp's.

The T9 moves 500 tonnes. There are dozens of cargo vessels in the world today that move more than 150000 tonnes.

It's exaggerated a little by being in the foreground, but it is one of the biggest ships in the game. The Sidewinder and Eagle (in particular) are still quite big, I'd guess a bit bigger than those fighters. Plan view:
