Large weapons

Hate to tell you you're wrong, but you're wrong, frags are REALLY good. Stop using them on shielded small ships.
Hey, would you mind elaborate? In what situation do frag cannon give you an edge?
Since they have a total of 11 bursts, they are definitely not good for long session of PvE kills.
Since they are ineffective against shield or at long range, they generally will not do for PvP where everybody relies on shield cell banks and run away as soon as the shield drops.
Now, I agree that one bust of frag at close range is equivalent of 4 cannon shots against the hull, and since it spreads, easier to damage modules.
=> So only good for a few / unique PvP kill, where you blast the shield of your opponent at close range then frag him to death before it flies away? Or for PvE assassination missions?

From my side, I use an all cannons setup on a Cobra, kept at its top speed all way long at conflict zone, and have way more fun than flying a two beam Vulture. Feeling like a supersonic bomber! However I must wait to find a shieldless prey and also bring way less vouchers than I used to with my Vulture...
It could also be used on Python/FdL to keep 4 pips to shield and fly like a tank :)

Situations where you need to burst someone's hull down, such as when taking out a Python or Anaconda down as fast as possible. No, of course long duration PvE isn't a good time to use them, the same could be said for a few other weapons. If you are looking to sit in one spot and grind for 8 hours, fit all pulse lasers and call it a life. The point I am trying to make is that all of the weapons have situations where they excel. This whole "this sucks" or "that sucks" is not even an argument. Not being able to find a situation for how you like to play the game does not mean something sucks. It's VERY clear to me when and where these less used weapons are VERY good. I use cannons a lot and have used frags plenty as well, I do a lot of fighting up close with a Courier or Vulture and have seen what these weapons are capable of. Of course, I also don't go sit in a combat zone for 3 days either. For that I'd fit completely differently.

PvP is of course questionable due to everyone just wanting to fit as many boosters and cell banks as possible, obviously, for that kind of situation, kinetic weapons don't excel at all. If the "meta" for PvP wasn't so shield involved, they'd have a place. If you fly with a wing, of course, you can specialize individual ships and kinetics can have a place there. 1v1 though, likely just better to stick with thermal.

Rail guns need more ammo.

PA carry 105, so do cannons. This 31 limit is really irritating.

Rails also do the most shield damage per shot, along with being both thermal and kinetic. The more ammo they have, the more they need to tone down the damage.

Well, for PvE, the fastest way I found to blow pythons/anacondas is:
- With my Federal Dropship / Python: 5 gimballed pulse
- With my Cobra: wait for the shield to drop (from other ships at a Combat Zone), get close, 4 pips to shield, then release the cannon balls. once it pops, get the hell out at full boost, yeaaaah! (Adrenaline rush when there are other commanders flying around!)

I do know that with frags, you get about 60% more damage per second than with cannons, but close range + 11 bursts only + not efficient against shield is to me an invalid weapon for anything else than assassination missions or PvP where your opponent has decided to fight to the death.

Still, I believe that twice or three times the ammo would have more players (including me) using them, while not putting the game out of balance.

Not really too good in a RES or CZ. You'll get half a dozen kills then have to leave and reload.

Not really, I can get well over 20-30 kills before I need to leave the area.

And besides, once I can comfortably afford an A6 power plant, I will be going full beams.

But they give you the ability to snipe subs from range with hitscan accuracy.

Any more ammo would make them OP.

Ive been running PvP railboats for months and they are hard work for a variety of obvious reasons but the bottom line is in a 1v1 you come out on top a lot.

It would absolutely put them out of balance as the more ammo you are given, the less precise you need to be. You are rewarded for getting in the proper range and ensure you hit the target with all of the fragments. I guarantee you more ammo would spawn frag boats and people would then come back to the forums begging for a nerf.

The beauty of frags is the simple fact that you can bang em out on a nearly empty cap and still bash your opponents shield solution while you are defending with 4 pips in shields.

You need to get close but its worth it.

Yep, I thought I would fear nobody in my 5 railguns Dropship carrying 144T of cargo during past community goals...then I realized that every time I got interdicted, I was actually outnumbered ;)

That is the nature of piracy now.

Personally i dont like hanging in Pirate wings, prefer to do it on my own but they are a very important part of the game and the profession could do with some love.

Well, operating in a wing is how piracy should work and I have no problem with that. The profit from piracy is pretty low compared to the risks involved and the odd of the prey escaping. Also, if they manage to pull me out of of supercruise, they win and I am glad to drop some of my cargo...can't win every time, right? And trading without piracy is boring (which is why i trade only during community goals!)
The problem is that almost every time I got interdicted, all they wanted was the kill, easy for a 4 vs 1, not the cargo...

I just want Archon Delaine's crypto-scrambler (does loads of damage to shields, but none to hull) when it becomes available in a couple of weeks to have a class 4 option!

Not going to happen, obviously, but I would love that on the FdL. Maybe combined with, oh, I dunno 4 medium frags...that won't be at all unfair:cool:

I'm actually a bit afraid of what the power weapons will be like... As far as I understand, they won't be overpowered, and I am fine with that...however they may also have a lot of drawbacks, making them underpowered but useful for specifc scenario only, like the current frag cannon...

I mean, what if for instance:
- Cytoscrambler only class 2, fixed, dealing 30% more damage to shield but sucks as much energy/power as beam?
- Enforcer Cannon dealing more damage, slower, but half the ammo?
- Prismatic Shield 30% stronger but requiring 60% more power?
- Pack-hound rack nothing else than dumbfire missiles which really do not fly in a straight line and only a few of them may hit?
You see my point? In the end, I'm not sure I would use them instead of the current weapons...

Game is better for people like you. Repped.
