Engineers Lasers better than MC for huge points on a Corvette now?

There isn't really a "meta" for PvE, you fly whatever is effective/fun for you.

Beams are great for general PvE, easy to aim, huge mount is quite efficient, you don't need the high up-time of other lasers/MCs and the fall-off is less of a problem than it seems on paper. Personally I'd go Beams over MC simply because MCs have to be gimballed on such a big ship, which cuts a lot of your potential DPS. Add in the fact thermal straight up outperforms kinetic damage, and Beams come out everywhere execpt sustained fights against other large ships.

That being said, I love having a "skill-shot" aspect to my ships, so I'm currently running 2 Huge (Oversized) + 1 Large Efficient (DF) PA - the alpha damage is obscene, and she still runs on 2 WPIPs. Beams are effective, PAs are effective and fun.

I thought long range best for PA to increase projectile speed? I agree fun but not as much when you have 3 rail-eagles on you in CZ and you can't hit them for joke!

Generally I'd say it depends, if you are going for more overwhelming dps, then MC would be the best, but if you simply want to be able to keep going and not worry about ammo, lasers, and they aren't bad in themselves.

All lasers? I'd like to know the details on that an what the total DPS is.

UNRELATED QUESTION: Anyone like long rang plus thermal vent for two huges beams on a Corvette? Is that too much power / not enough firing time?

i was thinking of testing all lasers as well
currently running 2xhuge, 1xlarge beam and 4 rails

might try
2 x huge beam
5 x burst on secondary fire

With my current config i can fire 2 huge beams for 14 seconds continuous with 2 pips to weapons
then use burst to rip the hull, hmms, i wonder...

OT> everyone seems to love long range beams, i havent tried them. what is the attraction may i ask? i can boost at nearly 400ms so little ships dont really get away that much. pretty much all fights for PVE are close quarters, they feel kinda wasted given i can keep beams firing constantly currently and if i have long range, heat would add up, i could no longer fire SCBs while fighting and i couldnt fire for as long.

I wouldn't say LR is the go-to mod, some people like it (and focused) for the projectile speed, but personally I'm not a fan. Efficient is just far too much of a sustain increase. The mod halves the distributor draw and increases damage 24%, which means unless you have infinite power, you only need to land every other shot to outperform LR, and against bigger ships, I land a lot more than every second shot, making efficient a better choice for me. PAs on larger ships are, arguably, worthless for the small fighters, but that's what my SLF and gimballed bursts are for. Might do less damage against them, but PAs obliterate everything else (and if you land a PA shot on a fighter, no more fighter).

Beams have a ridiculous damage falloff rate if not long range. Just a grade 1 long range mod pushes the falloff out 500% if I remember correctly. If you're used to kissing the tail pipe of every ship you kill them maybe it's not a big deal.

Tried that in beta.

Gread DPS and all that, but not comfortable. Two C4 MCs and five beams gives you instant response from all guns. Cascade rails are useful only against engineered terrorists in wing missions - ordinary pirates in HazRES or military ships in CZ usually has extremely weak shields.

Most of my combat is PP related. Always need feedback rails in case you run into another CMDR.
