PvP Lasers in pvp?

....and yet.. Still rolling some G1 LR pulse lasers

Was rolling that on a C4 beam laser to test on my iCutter last night, and decided G1 long range is the troll of mods.

"30 MEF for a multicannon? This beam took 20 mins to grab 60 rolls for, and can spray scalding love over your ship's face from 4km away"
 
I've actually been on the receiving end of those just yesterday and yes, they work well precisely because they are anti-meta.

I recently jumped on the "screw thermal resist" bandwagon to get more absolute resistance, and thermal is a weakness - coupled with the fact that I only carry one Railgun, and a thermal long-range build was a perfect counter to mine - even with Long Range plasmas I couldn't reliably hit at 3-4 Km.
 
Wow i couldnt find where this thread whent! So theres a pvp section now? At first i though it was odd but, after having found this thread again, i notice not one care bare triggered post about griefing and mobius and bla bla bla..

Just a nice talk about the use of lasers in pvp! Feels warm and fuzzy.

And yes i end up spinng around at long distance when i use lasers in pvp as the only edge i have found is long range.

I have been trying to experiment with short range blaster thermal conduit beams. I cant because i have no biotech.

The therory goes that if you manage to sit at about 90 to 110 heat up close you can do overcharged damage and mabe double it when you go over 100 doing much more damage than the multicannon touting meta monkeys. But not suffer the cap draw of over charged. And the extra heat from close range would possably aid in the overheating.

If the thermal conduit effect realy does do double damage(and it seems to..) a class 2 beam can do almost as much damage as a huge beam! But use the wep cap of a class 2!

I plan on having them gimbaled and use them when some thing makes a close range pass untill i can get some distance and carry on long range laser spiralling.

G1 long range will help you more. Lasers do little damage after 1KM.
The thermal conduit damage will do well against un-engineered shields but thermal resist shields will be a bad time.

I tried going back to my MC PA FDL... The pulse lasers are back on after two hours.

Thermal condiut is terrible. You're doing less damage than normal lasers unless you're cooking yourself. Pretty much the worst mod you can put on them.
 
For what my novice opinion is worth, I use two C4 Efficient Beams with Thermal Vent as my main damage source and it works perfectly. The only issue is the range and while the Long Range mod takes care of that, Efficient allows me to fire them non-stop. Since most encounters are close range, it feels like a better choice.

But the double damage! Have you actualy tryed them out?

You can cook for a while before you get any serious problems. You only need to last one fight.

I tend to run on the basis that every one has solid resistamce across the bord so it comes down to raw dps rather than damage type. So lasers are just hit scan cap hungry heat monster mulit cannons essentially.

I got to try out my idea of using close range thermal conduit beams and the damage out put is quite amazing! But sadly on a viper ots not enough to bridge the gap quickenough to kill a player before your guns melt off. So.. there is that lol

The whole idea came from my melty conda. All efficient thermal conduit plasma! Pop a scb and pulle the trigger and you waft out a massive sunlike ball of super heated death! I think its about 800 damage per volly 60% of wich ish absulute. And you only need to be overheating for 10 seconds at moste. A wepons focused distributor alowws for a quick 2 shot volly so thats 1600 over 3 seconds and another shortly after so its possable to burst down shields on a pvp conda if you catch it buy surpirse especially with 2 small feedback rails. I love melty but its a risky build and expensive to fix and only works against large slow ships lol
