‘Last Orders’

bah.. my last order would be to go to alpha.. but i just can't seem to justify using another 100 pounds just to be a guinea pig :(

Guinea pigs has voting rights? :D

With everyone planning to share their alpha experiences, I will use my money to upgrade by poor, poor system. I am quite happy with my "Digital Downloads Pack" :)

Do you guys realize that guinea pig is playing more Elite Dangerous than ANY of us combined?

At this point I declare war on the entire earth-wide Guinea Pigs population!

While I don't think we are entitled to anything, So far FD has only convinced that they are trying to keep their word. They promised that Alpha will come December. In fact, I didn't expect it. I thought it would make sense to move it to the January next year. Still, here were are and alpha is coming.

What about Beta? FD has said again, that there's no schedule because there can be delays. However if something I have understand they just want to keep options open. If alpha testers, DDF and FD together quickly get trough scenarios and decisions, Beta will start somewhere in January and second stage - in February.

So please, don't be a jerk. So far FD has show it's trustworthiness in many aspects. There's big chance will be playing ED fully in March. Let's help FD to get there.

Let's introduce some critical thinking to this forum, for once.

First of all, I predicted on day one of the KS campaign that March 2014 is IMPOSSIBLE TO HIT. Got flamed for it.

So, what is happening now? "Oh well, it's ready when it's ready"
QUELLE SURPRISE! The relativations start early, sadly NOT EARLY ENOUGH, like.. how about during the campaign?

Next chapter.
Alpha, beta, beta 2, release "when it's ready" (formerly March 2014)

I told everyone before "don't expect this to release before Christmas 2014."
Got flamed for it.

So, now I demand to get my copy or at least OPEN BETA FOR EVERYONE in March, as stated in the Kickstarter campaign terms. It was *their* date choice. They've put it in, not me.

Of course, the white knights are riding and telling me I am entitled to nothing in March.
hey, sure, my mistake. So what else is not accurate in he campaign description then, if the release date was basically a lie?

So, do I get at least open beta in March, yes or no. And this is a question for FD, not for the riding whiteknights.
It better be yes, just my personal recommendation.

Yeah, I'm grumpy

Only one issue with the above and that's the use of the word "Estimated" in front of all the delivery dates on the Kickstarter. So demanding that things are delivered by a certain date is meaningless as those dates are.......estimated.

oh I'd love if one of my employees would give me an estimate, say, next week and he delivers 3 months later. Classy. Actually, he could pack up his stuff and go home, because he just got fired

Good luck with the resulting employment tribunal. :)

Boy am I glad I don't work for you....

An estimate is given in good faith, if there are reasons as to why that estimate is no longer accurate then those are given and either excepted or not. As far as I'm aware the dates given in the Kickstarter are still on track. Alpha will start in December that has been confirmed. There has been not a hint of slippage on the Kickstarter dates. If you backed the game you will have access at the given dates unless Frontier come out and say otherwise. The only change is the extended Gamma period but Kickstarter backers will still have full access to the game as promised. I would wait until there has been any confirmed delays before making demands.

also next week to 3 months is an increase of 12 times the estimated time. whereas even IF ED slips three months that is still only 1.1 ~ 1.2 times the estimate. so fromhell is saying he would be narcked at an employee who at 5 pm said next week and it wasnt ready till 9 am on day 8

Software estimation is a notoriously tricky business. I have observed that work is usually completed later, sometimes earlier than the estimate with a Poisson distribution. The distribution represents a % error, so that an estimate of 1 week taking 3 months is rare, but an estimate of 3 months taking an extra 1 week is rather common. Anyone that's worked in the industry would have seen that.

One of the 'tricks' to help communicate the risky nature of software development is to provide a level of confidence figure around an estimate. With enough experience and historical data, a project plan can be analysed to provide a % chance of delivery for dates around the actual estimate, but most times estimates are simply padded arbitrarily to increase the chance of meeting them by some unknown amount.

tl;dr Even making the fairly safe assumption that FD know what they're doing and have the best intentions, there's still a chance that the delivery date will be later rather than earlier than the estimate.

Am I off topic again?

The thread has gone off on a bit of a tangent from the OP in reference to the backers app closing and the new store not the release date. ;)

Could I humbly ask if we could go back to the OP's topic?

Thanks everyone. :D

Arggh the banhammer has spoken!

So back on topic, I'll be very interested to see what the new store looks like, what physical goods they will be selling (anyone remember the ED cap that was on one of the devs desks?) and also if they will be distributing ED directly from the store.

Hello everyone!!

I'm new on this forum, I have never played Elite because I was too young, but I have to say I can't wait to play the game from the guy you all praise...

I'm just a bit confused. I had initially pledged for the 25£ pack with just the game. After seeing how awesome this game will be, I have decided I can't wait and wanted to upgrade to be at least in 2beta and get a box of the game, so I added 35£ to my initial pledge to get the 60£ one. I also got 35£ reward credit.

On the backers app, it still tells me my rewards are just the game for the moment (so the 25£ initial pledge), even if my total backed is 60£, which should get me the higher pledge.

So my questions are,
- what can be used the reward credit for? I can't use some to upgrade it seems, but just buying lower pledges. I don't understand the point of "buying" a second pledge with it (though I could get a second box of the game with it).
- is it normal that my rewards are still registered as my initial pledge of 25£?

Thanks!!

Hi,

It sounds like you've added funds to your account with PayPal but not actually upgraded your pledge level within the app.

Login to the App and below the details of the current pledge on the manage my rewards page click Upgrade to apply the next pledge level. You will then either be upgraded if you have sufficient funds or be asked to add more funds.

Hope that helps!

If ones pledge is below the £25 "Digital Copy" level, does anyone know if the lower-level pledge would be applied to the cost of a digital copy from the store? With a Kickstarter pledge of £15, will the the full game cost an additional £10 in the store, or £25, making it worthwhile to upgrade before the backers app closes?

Because... a "friend" wants to know. Yeah, that's it. In my "friends" defense, he did only pay about £17 for the BBC version of Elite...
