Meet Betsy, here on the way to the Cave Nebula. She is going on a final journey before I retire or upgrade her to another exploration vessel. I have explored in a number of different ships through the years, but the Asp E, and the Betsy in particular, has always been my favourite.
Heading to the Cave Nebula means seeing NGC7822 a lot. So I headed there next. Partly for nostalgic reasons; my second ever exploration trip was to there (first one was to the Coalsack). Maybe I would see some of my old tags there? Of course that was when Falconfly tagged all the low-hanging fruit in the region. Still a good source of O-class weirdness and neutron stars.
And xenobiology, which was not part of the game last time I was around these haunts.
Black holes are now easy to miss with the FSS, if you want to visit them and play with the light distortion. But going to the System Map after a scan is not that hard.
Another cluster of O, A and B class star drew my attention as I meandered towards the Heart and Soul nebula:
Part of the reason I am out and about this time, besides wanderlust, is to look for new stuff to find with the FSS and updated DSS. That means scanning a lot of landables and taking photo opportunities when these arise. Because sightseeing is an important part of any journey! Collecting vent, fumarole and geyser types is just the pokemonesque part of the journey, but one also need a selection of different planets and stars as backdrops.
After a few weeks of meandering about I finally pulled up at Base Camp. Nice to have populated systems this far out, although I really didn't need my rear sniffed by a Vulture when I first arrived in the system...
Landing at Base Camp concluded the first part of this journey. Not sure where this will go. Maybe I will swing over towards Colonia, which just got that name when I was there last. Maybe I will swing in towards the galactic centre again? Either way, it will be a follow-the-nose sort of trip, playing with the new exploration toys. Which I enjoy a lot. Yes, it's a bit sad to lose the instant system map from the old ADS, but that was too simplistic anyway. I actually enjoy having to factor in the risk of missing something on the way if all I want to do is cover ground. Ask me again in a few weeks, though.
