Late to the VR party...but...Ohhhhh Mai gawd!

Anyone actually still have a dk2? I saw one second cheap and am contemplating the purchase. Is the dk2 still worth it just for this game?
Yes and i prefer it to my Vive already if i play ED because of glare circles in the dark which DK2 does not have (it uses normal lenses).
I do not know how CV1 behaves here but it has the same sort of lenses as vive - fresnel lenses.

Really? You prefer the DK2 to the vive for ED?
How about the godawful color banding? I have the DK2 and cannot play anymore beecuase of it! Some Rifts(if not most) apparantly also have the same issue. Vive apparantly does not have this issue at all!

All Rifts have the colour banding issue, and it got worse with the introduction of ASW. But the latest update on Dec seemed to get rid of the ASW-increase, and we're at least back to the original colour banding.

I wish I could get some more time with a Vive (without purchasing one lol) so I caould get more familiar with its colour range and ED performance.

Same here. Some guy in my town is renting VIve's and am thinking of renting it to find out.

Ok i pulled the trigger and gonna collect the dk2 this evening. At an even better price. 70usd lol. Now to figure out how to set up this. Any updated info on what runtime to use etc?

Use whatever the latest Oculus drivers are, it works fine with the DK2. Just don't go thru the full calibration.

Loved reading the OP. It reminded me so much of when I first got my Vive. I've never had the opportunity to try a Rift, so I'm not even going to weigh in on the differences. All I know is that I love my Vive and it looks great to me. I have a monster of a system and can really crank up the SS and settings, so ymmv.

I've done so many cool things in EDVR, but I think the one thing that stands out so far is when I bought a Keelback just to mess around(and it was relatively cheap). I approached a station with a docking computer, got up out of my chair and used my play area to walk around and stand on the bridge looking out. I'm not ashamed to admit that a tear or two was shed as Strauss began to play while the docking sequence commenced. I felt like I was on the bridge of the Enterprise. I was inside my own sci-fi movie.

Never has a technology, gaming or otherwise, had such a transformative life-changing effect on me as VR. After 43 trips around Sol, I think that's saying something.

Oh man ... I'm definitely giving that a try. I'll trade you ... one of my own favourite things is to park above a star that has lots of solar activity, get out of my chair and lie face down on the "cockpit" floor just taking in the wonder if the view through the floor windows of my Asp.

That first moment... that very first moment when setting up the Rift when setting up the sensor i knew something quite remarkable was happening. Nothing quite prepared me for the experience. You can read all the reviews you want, watch all the YouTube videos you can but nothing, i mean nothing can prepare you for those first tentative and somewhat disorientating steps in Virtual Reality.

Hahaha... That was fun to read. I had the same feeling when I played in VR for the first time. Absolutely a gamechanger. And Elite is one of the best games for VR on the market at the moment.
Land on a planet and drive in your SRV. Switch also to the laser tower and look back at the wheel marks in the dust. First time in my SRV I was like ... aaaah, ok, that's how it must have felt when they were driving on the moon.
