Hello guys, I am German, sorry for my bad english, and I am not very familiar with Forums. I am sorry if I am in the wrong place here.
I need help with the ED Odyssey launch.
I've had Elite and Horizons in my Steam library for many years. Reinstalled it a few days ago and bought Odyssey. Otherwise I could decide in the Steam Launcher whether I wanted to play Elite or Elite Horizons.
When I start Elite now, two options appear:
Play Elite Dangerous, or start Elite Dangerous in VR mode.
I press play Elite Dangerous.
Frontier then opens with the note:
This Steam account is linked to a Frontier account.
My name and the button:
Log in with Steam.
After I press log in a new Frontier window appears with the options:
Play
Administer
Versions.
When I press play it goes back to Steam and the game starts.
Confused.
I also have to change the resolution every time because it is not saved.
Can someone help me?

hiya. if i understand you correctly you are bothered by all the steps needed to launch the game?
what i do is launch the game right from the game launcher. if you dont want to scour your files for the launcher you can also just run it from steam, right click it on the taskbar and pin it there for permanent link.
launching the game from launcher will get you straight to the launch game/versions/... menu and you are only 1 click away from playing the game.
optionally there is a steam command, i think its -quicklaunch, that skips the login part if i remember correctly. but launching just from the launcher is in my opinion much more comfy and doesnt even require steam running at all...

regarding the resolution: could you check if the folder with the game isnt set as read only? i think that could prevent your settings from being saved and would result in the game defaulting its resolution.

Hi Shadowsnog, thanks for the quick answer.
I want to start the game quickly, like I used to on Steam, but that's not possible. Take a look at the pictures in the attachment. They show that I have to go to Frontier to start the game again.

It probably doesn't help that you didn't tick the "nicht mehr anzeigen" box ("don't show again") but this isn't a very likely cause.
I think you should definitely check the thing @Shadowsnog mentioned about the folder being read-only.

OK, in that case I would check to see if you have freshly-updated files in C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics after you make any kind of change to your graphics settings. (I'm a Steam user like you and this is where my graphics settings are stored.)
If you don't see any updated files, then this implies that the game is unable to save the settings for some reason.

Have you checked which titles are available in your versions button?

Whichever you select will remain default until you change it once more.

Hi Rat,
I've tested it. As you say I can change the default game mode on the Frontier webside.
Both works. Horizons and Odyssey. But my problem is, that I have to start from Frontier.

Hi, there are no restrictions. I have changed gamma settings and it works.
But the resolution settings doesn't work.
I manually go to 1920 x 1080. It works fine.
After restart it goes back to 720.

Hi Moppel,
I remember it darkly, that many peaple had problems to connect Odyssey in steam, when it launched some years ago. Me too. I am not sure, but I think I had to log out steam in the launcher and reconnect the frontier account (now it is my bad English / IT-technical jargon). I think it is the same problem, when you buy ARX in steam, that you have to relog, to activate it at frontier. You have the basic game, linked with your Fronier account, and Odyssey, ARX etc are expensions.

I am not more sure if this was the final solution, but if you like to discuss this in German, there is a German forum www. stellanebula.de with friendly commanders were you can ask questions.......

just to clarify
you have to start the game from frontier launcher, that is inevitable.
but if you want to speed up your launch a bit you can opt to bypass steam and go just through the frontier launcher...

Where "EDO" controls what version to run, it means "Odessey latest", you can find out other versions if you need.

This way you just click in steam and wait while game opens, do not click anything more (they have own bugs with login button repeated).

Sometimes you will get "Steam account is not bound...", just close launcher and run again. Don't change things.

Hi Ikaros, thanks for your mail, and all others for your replies.
First I have to correct myself. The graphics settings are changed and saved. If gamma can be changed, then resolution must also be changed. Anything else would be nonsense.
Yes, I know the checkboxes. I left it on to document the process.
What I don't understand is:
Does Odyssey change the whole process?
1. Start the game on Steam
2. Redirect to Frontier.
3. Confirm that a link exists.
4. Log in to Steam again from Frontier.
5. Start the game again at Frontier.
????????????????

Without Odyssey, a blue checkbox appears on Steam.
Do you want to start Elite or Horizons.
That's it.
Here I am linked to Frontier,too, but without back and forth.

Since nobody else is pointing it out...

OP - I strongly advise you to remove all your screenshots from the above post asap. It's a treasure trove of personally identifiable information from both Steam and Frontier, combined with your location in the opening post something a scammer/social engineer would be salivating over. Can't be too careful online these days unfortunately (and since it's with Frontier Support now doesn't need to remain here either way).

Finally, I found and posted a photo that shows the Steam launch of ED, as I know it from before (Elite or Elite Horizons) and is probably also possible now (Elite or Elite Odyssey).

There are two purchasing options, via Steam or via Frontier.
And I suspect (I bought both on Steam) that the link is broken.

But no matter, pensioners have time, right.

If that little snippet is a picture of your actual launcher I guess there's something totally wrong as the current launcher does not have those selection possibilities.
The current version (lower left corner) is showing as 1.7.6972.1 for me.

This is just an example.
This is what the launcher used to look like (without Odyssey) and I thought it was still possible to start like that today.
