Dear Lavecon People,

It has been an honor and a priviledge working alongside you guys. I might have felt uneasy and awkward the first day but your warmth, your spontaneous care for others, your sense of sharing and hospitality turned me right round. I have been blown away by the ease with which you put me at ease and me feel welcome, part of the team and even an Asset.
I mean, I come asking for a volunteer spot, so of course I fully expected to work all day and someone told me on sunday I was supposed to be able to take breaks. But seriously, it was so much fun watching all the groups discover Artemis, get to grips with its systems, learn the ropes and tools of the trade, get better at it by the second playthrough and more... When I saw that group coming for a one hour round and nobody was here to relieve me of duty, I just did not have the heart to tell them "you wait here while I'm going to get food".
The sheer amount of generosity, looking out for each other and acceptance I've witnessed is nothing short of marvelous. You guys are the best of the Elite community. I mean, whenever I would find myself lost in thoughts (be it about being alone in a foreign country with no one I personnally knew, the lack of french speaking persons or not knowing if that really cute barmaid was smiling at me because she was interested or because she was being polite) someone would immediately notice and say "hey, you alright buddy ? Want a beer ? Have a beer. You've paid enough money for train already, beer's on me !"

Highlights of the Event for me were :
  • Meeting fellow Fuel Rats. Damn are you guys good looking fellas ! Alec, Alex, Surly, Father_Cool and his incredibly cute daughter cosplaying Aisling !
  • Meeting and talking with Frontier Devs. Like, I've actually touched Michael Brookes, Sandro Sammarco, and Zac... And Ed gave me a Hug !
  • OH GOD THE VR COCKPITS. I WANT A VR SET YESTERDAY !
  • The many, many, many discussions about the game. And the questions everyone had about Fuel Rats. I mean, each time someone asked something, I had an anecdote to answer with. Crazy !
  • The goofyness. Got blue and peach tickets ? They're now blue and "not-blue" !

I am properly Humbled by what I've seen, heard and lived through. It's been... Something.

It was quite good fun, wasn't it? ;-)

I'm not sure how two days passed so quickly and I'm kicking myself for not having spotted the LARP weapons training - I wanted to learn how to spin a sword around my hand like Xena does.

I'll have to try, employment permitting, to stay on Sunday night also - the loss of those extra few hours amongst dear friends are definitely the biggest mistake that I made over the weekend! :)

EDIT: oh, and one more ... NEVER agree to play a role in Dockers without checking the script first.
Haha! I once volunteered to play a role in News at the first Elitemeet - I then read the script and realised what I had let myself in for. When it came to actually reading the part allocated to me (Heidi, a sports commentator) I read my part with a completely straight, deadpan face. :D That gave me the bug though and I jumped at the chance to have a part in Dockers. ;)

Me and Wrongway (husband) had a great weekend at Lavecon, from travelling down on Psykokow's "Fun Bus" on the Friday to travelling north again y "Fun Bus" on Monday - enjoyed every minute of it! The Fun Bus definitely lived up to it's name (at least for the passengers - it was not much fun for Psykokow having to fight the traffic jams, breakdowns and other holdups in both directions. For some reason, whenever Galactic Midden took over, the holdups disappeared? :)

Thanks to Allen, Karen and everyone else involved in making the weekend one to remember! It was also great to meet everyone - and to finally meet Dockers' writer, Simon and Eric Markey, all the way from the US of A! Sadly, our son Cloudien was unable to make it, partly through not making his mind up in good time and then it being short notice when a cancellation became available. I think he enjoyed the freedom at home though, living on takeaways apparently. :D

Too many people to mention everyone but you all know who you are! Great meeting each and every one of you! As is usual for me, I took lots of photos, the best of which are here: https://helenlister.smugmug.com/Lavecon-2016/ Look forward to the next one! o7 and Right On, Commanders! :)

I remember that night. I must apologise. I was honestly trying to keep a straight face myself, but for some reason at that time of the evening, my scripts was just a blurry mess in front of my eyes. Not only did that mean I had no idea what I was saying, but that I was hearing the puns for the first time when they were being read out. Your deadpan delivery didn't help either.

I wish I'd made it to the event so that I could've shaken Simon Winard's hand. He's provided me with a lot of entertainment over the years.

---just seen the photos----

Oh and of course Erik Marcaigh! I would've had a chance to wear the real imaginary toilet paper crown. <sigh>
