Lavecon News?

Secret = Michaels coloured his beard? :D

If I was looking at the DDA, I'd hope for either damage models or shield zones. However since the DDA is .. at best a dream list, it probably won't be.

More likely coloured beards ahoy!

I think shield zones is one of the things we lost due to the Xbox port and limited controller buttons.

Too many unknowns here to say anything really...
You think that will stop us?

Whatever it is, it has to make the audience go"oooh" and "aaah" and storm the stage waving folding green things. The stuff in the DDA that I (and many others from posts on here) think are most urgent are all stuff that will be very much appreciated by existing players (Proper exploration, Persistent NPCs, Hiring NPCs for wings, transporting people, and so on), but are much less likely to incite an audience to buy, buy, buy. So I think it is more likely to be functionally similar to CQC: something that we don't expect (they have implied that), and does not strengthen the core of the game but adds a shiny bit on top of the (rickety) foundations.

I don't. The fancy new overlay stuff means there is not a lack of buttons. I also do not think we have lost shield zones (yet). We cannot tell the difference between 'on the list but not got there yet' and 'abandoned the idea', and FD are not going to tell us. Shield zones is the sort of thing that does not excite me, but I know will make the game 'better' and will excite some. So I will be happy to have them. I suspect they are still 'on the list' but probably a long way from the top.

Evidence of the Thargoids existence is already in the game?!? <Keanu Reeves>Whoa!</Keanu Reeves>

This must be the UA surely?

"Timed exclusive" could also mean that XboxOne is the only console it will be available on for the moment.

There's no could about it - all press articles I've seen indicate the timed exclusive is at the console level:

David Braben says strong ties with Microsoft helped with the decision to skip PS4 at launch.

David Braben, co-founder of Elite: Dangerous studio Frontier Developments, has revealed that the Xbox One version of the game this summer is a timed exclusive.

Yup, gonna make sure you earn those high rank kills

Does that mean that the "modifier" for player combat rank progression will be changed so that killing an elite ship after these updates gives more player rank boost than it does now? Otherwise, it's effectively making ranking up harder/slower than it was previously.

Not against these changes, I love them, just wondering about the wider impact/implications.

Maybe it means that those who are further along on their way to Elite may get there faster, if they're good enough..........

Was that in "the official list" (DDA) then?

Sure was. Read the DDA. Not only does it have advertising for wingmen (PC or NPC) but it has stuff about the likelihood of a wingman running away when things get tough, wingman reputation (so not all candidates will even consider working for you) and so on. The design of wings went a lot further that what has been implemented thus far. But that other stuff is not for the pewpew boys, and we all know where FD's priorities lie at the moment.

Wow!

I suggested that a couple of times as a nice way of allowing traders to protect themselves as well as allowing a more interesting experience in the game. ie: Hire an NPC and also kit out their ship too. But I figured FD wouldn't be up for that as it would take away the experience of you in a ship!

If you could then give commands to your NPC wingmen like, stay here, attack that, defend this, that would be nice.

Finally, I also wondered if/when we finally get more interesting missions such as convoy defense/attack, how using an NPC wingman would make the experience more interesting too! ie: Do you tell your Wingman to defend the most important ship, or protect you?

Basically that DDA is exactly what I'd hoped for, except no mention of kitting out their ships. So all we need now is that to be developed (instead of any more Powerplay like curve balls), and for better/more interesting missions to use them in

This is my take on the CQC timing.

When FD talk about CQC coming soon after the xbox version they are talking about soon after the Xbox version releases (i.e. comes out of Beta.) I think beta will last into the autumn and the PC version will come out November time.

Lots of e-mails coming in from people with huge thank-you messages and thumbs up - the consensus is "what a lovely community" - just one example below from Paul at HCS Voice Packs (who was there in an unofficial capacity and still managed to donate some excellent prizes for the raffle).

"Hi David, great meeting you and the rest of the crew. Thank you for being such great hosts, the event was much fun, what a lovely community!"

Despite some of the way the forums can appear at times, he has it absolutely right - this is a fantastic community and I'm really glad I'm a part of it.

Seconded :)

It really was a great couple of days. Meeting everyone and just hanging out with them was just simple honest-to-goodness fun.

Taking part in a couple of streams, chatting to a cross section of people from the forums and from FD (Zac and Ed in particular) and joining impromptu discussions and card games in the bar. Fantastic!

They have also during E3 said that CQC would come in July and the only reference to holidays was "before the holidays". Everytime before when they have started to show of in-game screenshots of an upcoming build it has always been weeks away, not months.

I believe the FAQ on CQC is the main point of reference for this:
The CQC will be exclusive for Xbox One until Holiday 2015, when it will come to PC and Mac.

As I and others have stated previously in this thread all they need to do is keep the Xbox One version in the Game Preview Program until the tail end of this year for both statements to be true. The latest statement merely specifies that it will come hot on the heels of the full Xbox One release, it doesn't necessarily contradict previous statements on the timing of it coming to PC/Mac.

Finally caught up on my sleep and recovered from the amount of alcohol I drank and have read the thread in full.

Awesome was having a beer with Aisling Duval :D

The 'Snosdog' is infinitely more cute and cuddlesome than the 'Snos'
