Lavian Brandy?

Well you're only taking them to Leesti - like right next door. More spawn while you're on the trip.

It's takes about the same time as sitting waiting for them to spawn in Lave, perhaps the flying is more interesting than sitting in a Station waiting.

For a brief time around the time of the launch rares had no limit. FD patched it out fairly quickly after a large amount of drama and players in Pythons during the first week...

Delivering 14 tons of lavian brandy 150 ly earns me a profit of about 165k credits. Now let's say I can buy as much as I want and I can have 400 tons of it in my Conda. That would make me a profit of 4.8 Million in about 10 minutes - one way trip. That is why rares are limited. Otherwise you would be here whining that they are worse than Robigo.

Do the math, your argument falls apart. The issue at launch was because you could fill your hold in one trip all at once, if you wait 10 minutes to fill your hold 14 at a time (yes, assuming you get max allocation every time) you're not going to do any better than very average regular trading. They overnerfed by placing a ridiculous max allocation, and a random portion of it, and a time limit between allocations....
-
I also might throw up if I see "they wouldn't' be rare any more" one more ridiculous time. Rare is a relative term, Lave could have a million tons of it readily available at all times and it'd still be rare in comparison to non-rare commodities because there would only be one place you could get it.

That's non true at all. Many things in Elite are not obtainable unless you specifically go looking for them.
Just one example....
How many unknown fragments have you found without specifically looking for them?

Given what DragoonKnight said above, this is the rub, I haven't been to Lave in a year and won't go back anyway in normal play, why would I? Now it's fine if Didi or whoever wants Lavian Brandy, that's her prerogative, but from a design standpoint what good is making a player do a bunch of loops back and forth between neighboring systems? It's not fun or lucrative and it isn't going to happen in the normal course of play unless you just happen to base yourself in Leesti or Lave (not the least popular systems by any means, but still). I think a far better alternative would be to bring her 50 tons of rare alcohols from anywhere in the bubble. That doesn't discriminate so much against player location and would encourage players to explore other parts of the bubble, rather than walk in a small circle in one very small part of it for a few hrs.

The 14 at a time problem is just one more thing that makes this particularly irksome and grindy because it isn't like Felicity/Elvira where you had to go source something and deliver it (a very sensible proposition, even if it's outside your comfort zone), you have to go source something and then run in a circle for a couple hrs like a dog chasing his tail.

Please re-read my post. I was talking about a situation where it would be possible to buy rares the same way you can buy superconductors or gold or any other commodity, which is what Crimson was suggesting. Then such high profits would be possible and FD obviously doesn't want that.

I have only been playing since 1.4 so I don't really know what went on in the early days of 1.0 and such.

Someone always comes up with the statement:
Rare goods are rare
That is not a good argument at all.
Rare goods are rare because there is only one place in the galaxy that produces them. They aren't "rare" at all in terms of limited supply, as 10,000 CMDRs could turn up today and all get an allocation of 14. Exactly this happens at every rare goods CG. That's not rare at all.
.
But a limit per CMDR would be fine, provided there was some form of feedback to let the player know he had reached the limit. Many rare goods only spawn 1 or 2, but can have a limit of 30, but there is no feedback at all to let the player know how many he will get every ten minutes.
There is no way a player can influence a rare goods spawn. Being allied doesn't help, doing missions doesn't help. Nothing but waiting for a possible spawn every ten minutes.

The grind is created by player, not the game. You want something NOW? You grind for it. Elite is a slow progress game, it's not an instant win. There are certain elements that allow for it (Reloggo/Sothis are a good example), but majority of the game is designed to be a slow progress.

You may like it or not, but that is the case.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh....this is ripe. :D

"slow progress". man....you should be a speech writer for hillery clinton. :D

bud........i have news for you.....it IS a grind. please tell me what is fun about making 5 of the SAME EXACT trip????? why? what idiot does such a thing? oh...this is fdev. answered my own question.

i have to say, the game sucks. i get more joy out of reading the fanboi posts here than actually playing the game. or is it a sim??? hahahahahaha. :D

Deliver these 14, then come back for more. And due to Lave being so close to Leesti, there is no point in Teabagging - it's faster to deliver the load than waiting for 10 minutes.

The same goes for the other RNGineers that want rares, you have to make repeat runs...

Why won't they spawn more? This doesn't make sense. "Oh you have a cargo capacity of 160 but we will only give you 14 at max. Just because." or what?

GG FD. Stop capping like - everything, thanks.

Or atleast tell the players ingame "We have limited the maximum amount of rare goods to avoid palyers progressing too fast."

I am sorry but there is no reason to limit something like this.

That's one of the things that make "Rare Goods" rare - limited supplies.

But there is another option - make a friend, a good friend, who is willing to fly in and out of the port at Lave, bringing out loads of 14 brandy at a time and dropping them for you to pick up, until you have all you need.

This thing is still open?

OK. Yeah, it's a silly mechanic, but I did my Lavian Brandy runs the other morning in my Viper IV. Took something like 7 or 8 trips, and since it's just one jump.

Now, for the other ones, like the stupid cigars? Definitely bring a friend along.

Btw you can stack rares beyond the cap, allowing you to do the Fujin Tea in only 2 trips. It works alone, so if you have no friend none of your friends is online, you can check that :

It's cringy as f* and I feel sorry for myself, but hopefully it still serves its purpose : to demonstrate how to stack rares beyond the quota, on your own.

On topic, I agree with you OP, the game should let you know that your supply of rare good will be limited to X units. This information should be in the game. Period.

Did you know you can turn your limpet module off and then on again to destroy any bugged limpets and allow you to deploy a new one? Rep for the Solo rares stacking too!

Rep back for being nice :)

No I did not know that, that would have been helpful, and will prove useful in the future too, thanks! I don't think the limpet was bugged, I think I just shot it while having nothing targeted (so it went into "all pick" mode).

There needs to be some indication of what is happening. It's the worst thing about rare goods, that there is no feedback as to whether you are just getting a pathetic spawn, or have actually run out.

Some of us uncovered a brand new rare good a couple of weeks ago, Lyrae Weed. I wanted to include the max allocation in the wiki, which took nearly two hours to reach - especially when you include the 10 minutes waiting for no allocation plus another 10 to be sure. Rare goods trading needs youtube.

Rare goods have always been a broken mechanic in the game. The best example of this is Saxon Wine, which was recently discovered in a system that had a player faction in it.

Rare goods need:

  • Some form of gameplay, or indicator, or anything, to show that there are still more goods coming or you have got as much as you are going to get
  • Missions to allow you to get an extra allocation
  • Missions to take rare goods long distances (100-200ly), rather than the all too common missions for the least rare commodity in existence
  • Missions requesting rare goods from long distance. note - these missions should generate an extra allocation for the mission so the CMDR can choose to carry some more
  • Some benefit to being allied with the faction that sells the are good
  • News bulletins that state whether the rare good has bonus amounts because of boom, or that the rare good is blocked
  • Illegal rare goods for sale on the blackmarket
  • More NPCs carrying rare goods, especially illegal ones
  • States other than Boom that benefit some rare goods, e.g. weapons in war
  • Other ways of getting some rare goods, e.g. mining Baltha'sine Vacuum Krill, salvaging Soontill Relics
  • Benefits to powerplay for controlling or exploiting a rare good system, plus a penalty to blocking a rare good
  • The rare goods that have been removed because of player factions placed in their systems (Wolf Fesh and Gilya Signature Weapons) moved to new systems
  • Cheese

Yeah after farming for Paintite for 2 days to unlock another engineer I don't think I can stomach any more boring things for a bit. This thread just made me quit playing again, some things are just asinine, there is no challenge here just pure boredom. When a game makes you think about why you're playing a game, it's no longer fun. I'll be back in a few weeks / months to see what new grindy thing I have to do in order to combat The Thogroids, if it's unlock all the engineers or some lame thing, I'll just find a way to delete my account so I never play again.
