Leaving WP02

I think there will be a larger than usual dropout because so many jumped on board after the hype in media. Most signups came after 3.3, and I think that many of them haven't done long-distance expeditions before. It does take quite a commitment.
WP1 to WP2 about 5400LYs
I have already done 15000LYs and still near WP2, I think I will make it :D

As long as they don't announce where it is then it can silently appear at any point from now, normally they do that sort of change on the Thursday restart, though I don't know if they'll do it this week as the CG is still running, and there is no rush. It needs to be place at least a week before, as the WP7 announcement is on Sunday - so the DW2 organisers need to know where to send people...

Well, in the case of Sag A* there are a few :D neighboring systems, but not so many that the station can go unnoticed. The elite community has so far proven to find hidden stuff within minutes before. ;) FD already knows where to place it. And Erimus and Dr. Kaii. But noone else.

Its going to be built in 'stages of construction'.

Station core is put in first and it will be very bare bones. That will be in place as we approach the galactic core.

Next stage of construction will begin when we arrive there for the CG, this will look different to the station core phase.

And there will be possibly two more stages of construction during the CG.

Detailed info about it will be announced over the weekend, including info about possible outfitting facilities being online prior to the CG starting.

If we're going to be flying into a station visibly under construction during the CG, that will be awesome.

Assets already exist for stations in partial completion...... The thargoid attacked stations. Just replace the burning with the welding flashes (which already exist also)
Could even re-use the "evacuate station" internals but without the explosions and heat. But the smoke, and feeling of partially working could be put to good effect.

I really wonder how this staged construction is going to work in general. Usually a completed station just pops into existence, but here we're going to have a partially constructed station, with a second CG to finish it. Maybe they'll place it as an asteroid base first, then replace it with the final Orbis station? Or maybe it'll just be a docking section with reactor pod on the back, and get a habitation ring and other attachments later?

I just hope they don't cheap out by placing a large/completed station immediately, and have the second CG just add station services. Not a big deal though, since we're only talking about a week, or a few weeks, where it's in the transitional state.

I'll have to think about how I want to participate. I got a nice mining setup on my T9, but I wasn't planning to use that ship for the rest of the journey. I'm tempted, of course. But my plan has always been to use my science-Beluga, so the module transfer and swap is probably what I'll do, and just contribute a little to the next CG.

Now, my memory is not what it once was but...

Back in the day didn't we have a similar situation at New Yembo ?? (May not be correct system name, but I am sure it was New "something")
It was one of the first "construct a new station" CG's in the Back of Beyond.
It really did seem a long way away back then !! (Pre Engineers)

I seem to recall dropping in and you had welding flashes around the structure... bits missing etc.

Something like that would be good
