Left right and rear lasers

I remember in the original Elite on the BBC Micro you could equip your ship with lasers to the left, right, and more importantly, the rear.

I think left and right lasers would be uneccessary, but a rear facing gimballed laser would be real handy in a fire fight, ... and where are the Military grade lasers ?

Hm, AFAIK those Weapon slots only existed in ELITE II ?
Anything I fired in the original ELITE only fired fixed forward, if I remember correctly.

Either way, how would you ensure your rear Weapon actually had a valid firing solution before triggering?

IMHO a Multicrew might allow to manually man Turrets one day - but that's pure speculation on my side.

Calm down and have a biscuit and a cup of tea. Yes things have moved on. Turrets will act automatically and maybe placate you. I seem to remember that there were Thargoids on the BBC verrsion and who could forget the edible arts graduates?
Yes all fond memories.......and of course there were other slots for weapons not just forwards......multi crew, maybe hope yet?

The original Elite did indeed have 4 possible firing points (Front, Left, Right and Rear). I can't see these coming back to be honest although the incoming multi-crew might change the operation of weapons a bit.

Heh, yeah but the left & right views were an absolute nightmare to use - I recall sticking some mining lasers on on the sides (so i could keep a proper laser on the front) and trying to hit asteroids as they whizzed past - it was way more effort than it was worth...

I do miss the rear view though.

According to in game lore, when Frontier was delivered. Side and Rear firing lasers were dropped due to accidental fire incidents.

You switched to the rear station and tried to aim with control axes reversed. Bought some precious time on target against Thargoids.

Well here in 2016 my CAR has this thing called a Rear View Camera.....I know that camera tech has been lost in the ravages of time in ED, but maybe it can be re-discovered for this.
