"Legacy Firmware(Material/Data)"....(WARNING: out of character for me lol)

So I've droped in about 200 signal sources, and looked at 30 BB at both stations and planetary bases and nadda! What the heck man! Where do I get it if not the two places the game told me to bleeping look!!![mad]

EDIT: I'm trying to get a specific engineer mat.

Did you scan the Nav beacon to update your mission? After doing so, look at the mission on your left panel. It should update it with location info. Then go there, look for blue USS'.

This, the game will create a mission specific USS that is blue, you'll find the exact item there.

Sorry, should clarify this is a mat for a Engineer mod. It says "found in signals and as nission reward, but rare." Still rare should not take 2 days and not one found.

Theres a list of where people have found specific materials I believe, but it may just be random. I'll check.

It says there's a list of material locations, but it doesn't work on mobile. Feel free to check it.

Thank you...just checked inara and this and they both are saying it's common, the game says it's rare...I don't know who to believe, but I do know now I just got to keep hoping the RNG gods give me the 2 Specialized Legacy Firmware because right now they just apparently hate me.

I'm gonna go with rare since I don't have it either. And I scan EVERYTHING lol.

I have found a few by just flying around a system and checking USSes. I found some Core Dynamics crafting mats and one or two legacy firmware. It is a matter of investing the time and farming signal sources. I should mention I was in the Deciat system when I found these things. I am sure it is completely random, but felt I should add it.

I have no idea if this will help, but on Deciat 2 I came across a small PoI base, and scanned the node there, got all kinds of firmware data, including two legacy ones like you're looking for. That was only the second PoI "base" I've ever come across. The rest have just been skimmers defending cargo, and that one crash site. Maybe PoI bases carry them? Got like 4 differen firmware pieces from that base.

I'm in the same boat, man. Why does a grade 1 mod even require a rare item much less two?! If you find any Specialized Legacy Firmware, update it here and I'll do the same.

I have heard they can be found by scanning convoys and in degraded and/or encoded emissions. I will keep searching signal sources for them but I have a theory that where you are (system) has an impact on the chance of finding certain items. It may be to do with what resources and commodities are in a system. The ships and hardware in a system and which faction is in control may also determine which data is abundant and which is rare.

I don't know, could be grasping at straws here and it is all just purely random what you find. However a lot of these materials are extremely rare or non existent in some places, but in others you are guaranteed to find the stuff. So I'm hoping that there is some key to finding specific materias rather than just do the same activity over and over until you get what you need

I was trying ot upgrade my power distributor from the Dweller. Just learned apparently if you sell commodities at his station that gives you rep with him?!
Need to try this... If I can just skip to highest grade mods, that'd be fantastic.

You'll only find them in Degraded Emissions and Encoded Emissions USS's, If you drop in and see some form of Data Beacon (Usually a Private one) your set.

Hang on.... is that a thing?

No you're not "set" cause after over 100 USS with Data Beacons(god knows how many in total) I had to give up or risk getting burnt out on 2.1 yesterday...

Typo: Was meant to say "usually set" granted I've only found 2-3 of them since 1.6 landed but they are quite Rare.

Also the type of system your in has a bearing on the types of Engineer mats you find, think I found all of my Firmwares in High Tech systems

Haha yes I agree, seeing a data beacon just means you have a chance of getting the legacy firmware. If only it was that easy :/

Wasn't being mean, just pointing out the RNG can be a *****. :p

Any tips for finding high volumes of degraded or encoded emission sources? Yesterday I was in an agriculture/refinery system run independently and was getting them quite often. I have tried going to a high tech fed system in boom and all I am finding is weapons fire. Do the types of signal sources you find depend on anything or is it just random?
