Legacy Horizons and Elite Dangerous: Horizons

What's the difference between Legacy Horizons and ED: Horizons?
and if I download ED: Horizons will my Legacy Horizons progress switch to ED: Horizons?

Legacy is Horizons 3.8 with the older GUIs and will no longer be supported by Frontier with Community Goals and probably updates etc. It is now a separate game so progression will not be applied to the other versions.

Live is Horizons 4.0 with the new GUIs and will be supported. It does not have on foot play. Progression in Horizons 4.0 will be applied to Odyssey.

Odyssey adds on foot play, is supported, and progression is applied to Horizons 4.0. Wearing an Odyssey suit then switching to Horizons 4.0 will have interesting results but the player doesn't lose anything.

All player modes are still available and if you have joined any groups they are still there.

Any progress you have made since the end of November (or the 4.0 split) on 3.8 will only be on 3.8. Everything prior to that will transfer over however.

If you are on PC all ARX & anything bought with ARX will also be present in 4.0.

So if I read this right, if I RESET Legacy Elite Dangerous OR Legacy Horizons to start with min credits an a Sidewinder this will NOT impact/change what I have in either Elite Odyssey or Elite Horizons? Have I got this right?

...

Is that correct? If someone who only has 3.8 at the moment now goes out and buys EDO - wouldn't the first time they start EDO take the current 3.8 account conditions, not some snapshot back in whenever?

Just asking out of interest.

The only people who only have 3.8 at the moment are console players, who can't buy EDO without creating an entirely new account on PC.
(They may have some better arrangement available with supported account transfer at some point)

Anyone on PC with access to 3.8 also already has access to Horizons 4.0 whether or not they buy EDO, and the accounts were split at the end of November (unless they only bought ED at all since then, in which case the accounts both started blank and independent).

Of course. My addled brain must have been coffee-deprived to not think of that.

I'm sorry for necroing. Is there no way to migrate data from a Legacy Horizons account to a ED: Horizons account?

My brother bought the game on steam about 2 weeks ago and chosed to start playing the legacy version out of ignorance. Even if 2 weeks of progress doesn't sound like a huge loss for people who have been playing for years... It certainly is a lot if it is ALL your progress.

No, just start playing live instead of (or as well as) legacy.

Having had those two weeks, the progress after a fresh start will be very quick. Everything learned in that 2 weeks will make the new journey so mutch more fun and a magnitude easier.
