Legs, 1st, 3rd, or both?

1st or 3rd person tends to be a heated discussion (I expect iMmUrSiOn posts to pop up), but I personally would want 1st person view only. We still have the vanity cam for nice pictures.
And aside from first-person view being naturally more immersive, third-person games require interiors to be larger to prevent clipping when moving the camera around, which in Elite may cause inconsistencies with exterior views of spacecraft and starport buildings.

Don’t care about legs, give us atmospheric planets and then vulkan support!
I'm sure that Frontier couldn't come close to making this sort of dog's dinner of Vulkan :)

OpenGL had amazing detail even from extreme distance, 'Beyond' in Vulkan went down the pan...

.... which would likely significantly increase the time between boarding and lift-off - which would have a detrimental effect on chances of escape while under fire.
Quite, then again not necessarily reasonable to have some people pay that delay and not others. So we'll have to see how FD handle this. Perhaps the transition time between SRV and the ship increases if you don't want to walk about - or it takes longer to get the ship off the ground. Or you just give the people the option to swap back and forth like now or walk about if they want. Or you re-imagine the current SRV mechanics as you controlling the SRV via telepresence but let people pilot the SRV manually if they want by walking down there. Various options. I'm not sure how reasonable it is to expect large game additions with absolutely no impact elsewhere, have to see, wherever that line is drawn some people are going to be super annoyed and probably in both directions.

External ship repairs could be like a zero g version of subnautica repairs on the cyclops, run about inside putting out fires and patching holes. Then swim about outside welding holes and swim over to the canopy to peep into the control room and see the damage display for any that you missed. Always liked doing that.

Obviously switch swim for spacewalk.
External repairs seem like an obvious one to me too :) Thing is I can see legs for non-DLC players being restricted to inship only, so perhaps you only get external repair with the full version? Or repairs are only done internally?? I guess you could let people out to do repairs but not for anything else? Anyway..

I think you'll need to buy the DLC to play it at all, although restricting it to the cockpit would actually act as an in game demo.

I'm still not convinced space-feet are a certainty.

If, and it's possibly a big "if", boarding of other CMDRs' ships were to become a thing then either all players would need to gain the ability to move around their own ship or players without the DLC could not be boarded.

I can't see in game ship theft/boarding being a thing, as I would use it to sell cobra IV's for void opals.

Been out of EvE Online since years. I remember the "SpaceLeg" topic was discussed till exhaustion in there forum too. Finally CCP gave up and presented:
SPACE LEGS

You could by cosmetics for your character and could walk around your "personal captains quarters" (without the ability to customize it).
Everyone was excited, till...yeah....till Legs where dead in the waters (ingame demo)...just like CQC (PP?) in Elite.

So, spacelegs...who needs legs when you have spaceship's?
"legwork" could be done with "Servants" nowadays. ;)

I don't know if this has already been considered by FDev, and or whether it could be changed if the core were to have been the wrong choice, but for me and many others it has to be first person, third person is like asking Lewis Hamilton to sit on the back wing of his car... it's dumb, but not for everyone, many players like the extra info from the third person view and like to watch their chosen body do it's thing, but not for me... again!

So would you ask for first person, third person, or both, and would/could it affect your purchase of a legs expansion if you can't do the one you like?

It should only be first person perspective, as you will see from the video below, third person offers an unfair advantage by allowing the players to see things around corners from their character, things other first person players cannot see.

Brabes said the plan was first person only back in the day:

Pryrios: When you say we will walk inside ships and
stations, are you thinking in first person view or third
person view over the shoulder? If it's third personview, are you planning on doing some character
creator to make different characters for players?

David Braben: First person.

Given the challenges they've got on their plate I'd be fine if they just focused on first person. (Plus I'd rather have VR support than third person ;))

The developers of Prey (2017) have added space legs to their game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, I think I wouldn't have liked the game at all without the option to move around.

Comparing two completely different games makes for a weak argument.

I know, I installed but never played Gothic 4 for the very reason of no 1st person perspective,
It may offer advantages but I don't care about the winning, I have always wanted the experience of immersion... that is the sales clincher for me!
