LEP statement from a first wave purchaser

Indeed, I don't see why people are spazzing out. If frontier said that Beyond was the last series of updates, they'd have a point. As it is, I still wish I had the opportunity to get the LEP for my Xbox account. I'm willing to bet that it'll end up being a worthwhile investment for those who have it.

All i have seen is that Beyond is the last SEASON they will release.

According to the lifetime pass we have access to "all major expansion packs as they are released".

Now, sure they could start making Mini-DLC's and say they no longer make any major expansions packs or lifetime expansion packs anymore but that would be a somewhat move.

In short, any expansions to the game are free for lifetime holders until further notice.

This is just the latest tempest in a teacup thread. There will be more spazzing and for no good reason.

The value of the LEP can only be determined the day after the Elite Dangerous servers are shut down.

Anything before then is pure speculation and the drippiest of bovine excrement.

as a lifetime pass owner from first wave I've decided I hate having it, I genuinely felt that I was ripping them off slightly and when Horizons came out I bought a second copy just to continue support. Now this isn't me giving it "Look at me, LOOK AT ME!!!!!PENGUIN" but every LTP owner should understand that by simply having a LTP, we shorten the actual lifetime potential of the game.

Maybe its just me but at some point I always expected the LTP to expire and I wouldn't really care if or when it did because from a purely £££'s per hour that I had out of ED point of view, it was a shocking deal for FDev. There comes a point where you have to understand the paradox of a life time pass and that you cant have both a long life product AND everything free, one cancels out the other.

Now you can argue that FDEV should have foreseen this and put an expiry date on it but they are a little bit too cuddly for that sort of thing, they probably expected some common sense to prevail and the goodwill to be reciprocated.

To suggest that as an early backer you could receive a refund if they (and god i'm not even suggesting they are, don't go there) added paid for content outside the scope of LTP owners is laughable, at most the best you could hope for is some form or pro-rota refund based on usage and as you are still here 4 years later and paid a pittance for it in the first place you would probably be so far out of pocket chasing it it would be folly.

Seriously when these thoughts cloud your mind just go and make a brew and have some cake or something, its a hypothetical problem you have no influence over.

No, Beyond is not what they consider a season, it's all very confusing, but the important thing is that nothing really changes.

According to the lifetime pass we have access to "all major expansion packs as they are released".

Correct.

I also don't get the LEP panic.

The LEP proposition in general, no just ED, is "Put your money up early and get more for it later with the possibility of getting nothing if things don't turn out".

The whining just sounds like people don't understand the basic premise of an LEP.

Plus Zac has said LEP owners will be looked after.

*rubbing temples* I wonder how many of the people flinging at me had to repeat grade 2 due to insufficient capacity to the comprehend written word. Then again as the dude who brought up Star Citizen earlier showed misinformation seems to be the name of the game as shown by multiple people positing different potential interpretations of what the future holds for LEPs and 1-2 individuals having the bright idea to bring up Zac's comment with regards to Beyond where that was never in question.

As for why LEP holders are worried: Horizons has dragged its rear so hard when the initial statements were that seasons would be a yearly or at least every other year affair. This coupled with the fact that they seem content to drip feed new skinner box-type gameplay elements into the game (want a cool ship? grind. Want that ship to suddenly not get blown up by lowbie NPCs thanks to Engineer retrofits on them? Grind on grind. Want to not get on by a hostile Thargoid? Would you look at that more grind though at least here it's community level grind rather than player level). Now they're taking over a year to fix some gameplay elements that have been in dire need of renovation since launch while others continue to languish in uncertainty . That's not even going into the fact that gradually promises made at launch are getting rolled back inch by inch ( think guilds, think player carriers, now realize these two were never meant to be in Elite but asteroid bases owned by players were ). I normally wouldn't have a issue with this but it poses questions about LEPs (as they are a promise from back then) and, more importantly, how in the ever loving Hell are they gonna implement gameplay features they were fairly staunchly against in design phase? At the current time I am more worried about Elite Dangerous' future than I am Star Citizen's because Soon(TM) is damn surer than "It will never happen." and then going back on it gradually.

When Elite Dangerous ceases development, and it will one day... Will you demand your money back because you didn't die first?

The sad part is that some people will.

I've actually only seen 3-5 people who suffered from the LEP paranoia, but somehow all these threads end up with 30+ pages which makes it look like the issue would be way bigger than it is.

Yeah, this. ↑

Wondering where the game is going, how it's going to get there, and how it will account for the LEPs is one thing, and can be reasonable depending on the LEP owner.

Paranoid speculation for the sake of it kind of misses the mark though and takes away from the more reasoned outlook most LEP owners seem to have regarding this.

In general, people seem to take sides and paint with too wide of a brush regarding their perceptions and opinions of others, which doesn't really help things either.

This, and I can't say that I am innocent.

Now I kinda wanna see the marketing strategy they'd use to announce this to players...! .... Ed's live stream following the announcement.... DBOBE's interview clip... :D

- a release video with a twerking Denton Patreus in a mankini
- Green mankinis in the Elite store
- Tiny twerking bobble...butt Denton Patreus dashboard models.

For the price the OP paid for the LEP, he'll get his money back 50 times in future content having not the need to pay.

If it can be arranged, I'll be more than happy to arrange a paypal transaction for 40 euros for ownership myself!

(assuming FDEV are happy to transfer to my account)
