Let down by the Horsehead Nebula

One of the most iconic nebulae needs to be fixed. When you get really close on the galmap, there is a very close LoD of it that has some kind of head appear, but I've been to every star on the right side of the nebula and none of them are close enough to render it. It's a shame really.

Has anyone had any luck getting it to render?

I mean the actually "horse" part of the nebula.

Heading that way for the first time this week, if I manage it then I'll let you know.

Up to now GalMap view and the cockpit view have been pretty close for me so if you can get it from the GalMap....

Perhaps 1288 years into the future, the cooler gases in the head have collapsed into the rest of the nebula.

The other possibilty is that the

I think it's more likely however that the horse head feature itself is actually the separate Horsehead Dark Region (seen below) which is actually much closer to earth (~1350LY) than the brighter nebular shown above (~1500LY). The dark region is almost precisely where the "horsehead" is located in the NASA picture - as seen from Sol. Shown off-center below for scale:

Brilliant explanation, I love it

I was wondering if getting the Horsehead Dark Region lined up right was the key...

Good to see you still around Iain, much respect for your dedication and determination after what happened...

Neigh, I have not.

(Oh someone had to say it!)

I think I have found 2 that might be the head.
One at the actual nebula, but I think its too small.
Another at a small nebula in the front called horsehead dark region. But you need some imagination for that.

Anyone seen the Witchhead?

There's two points:

1 -We are 1228 years in the future

2 - The real images of the Horsehead Nebula is like it was 1500 years ago

So, 2728 years have passed between what we know and what we see in the game

Don't you think??

I think you are damn right. I also think that there is a horse head in the nebula on the galmap so it does seem like a bug in the game too

That's the case. The big, red nebula is IC 424. The actual horsehead is Barnard 33.

That is very nice man. Ziggy and iain, can I have the honour of adding you both in game? CMDR Dr. Kaii

Will be playing in about 3 hours

Thanks, and any of the others I regularly deal with in this forum. Ziljan springs to mind :)

I started this topic because I headed out there very recently in order to get the footage for Deep Space Survey 9, which is sitting waiting to be edited :(

It's been a tough few weeks - we are buying a house :D
